Hello!

I want to build my own MFA (Multi-Factor Authentication) device. Here are two questions: Where do I need to tap into the consumption signal at the control unit?

What is the shape of the power consumption signal?

Best regards.

Hello,

In my AHU diesel engine, the signal consists of short rectangular pulses, and the distance between these pulses decreases as the injection amount increases.
For testing, you can simply connect a multimeter with a frequency measurement range.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you how to convert the frequency to a smoke density value.

But for determining when the consumption is low, that's perfectly sufficient. The sensitivity is so high that even the activation of the air conditioning or simply the power consumption caused by the brake lights or headlights being on is visible.

Hello,

I'd like to install this myself as well. It clearly handles the power signal, but what about the speed signal?

It's likely located on the blue distribution panel above the fuse box (Bl/Ws cable), but what is the signal waveform? Similar to current consumption, an analog voltage, or PWM?

The calibration of both signals is then done via VCDS, but first, you need to understand the signals icon_smile.gif.

Best regards, Steff.

'Information about which vehicle this applies to would certainly be helpful.'

especially since nowadays everything runs on CAN anyway.

Since the AHU Diesel was mentioned above, I thought it would be clear that I'm also referring to this model. icon_redface.gif
There's something inside a 1996 Volkswagen Golf...

In that system, nothing runs over CAN, so you can simply add a microcontroller and do things. icon_biggrin.gif
