Hi.

My Passat with an AFN engine, which has been chipped and has a mileage of 185,000 km, has been causing me some concern lately. When accelerating, it pulls normally up to about 2200 RPM, then briefly hesitates (especially noticeable in the 4th and 5th gears), before accelerating normally again around 3000 RPM. The top speed hasn't changed. Also, the acceleration in the higher RPM range is fine.
In addition, the following occurs: After approximately 2-3 weeks of extreme short-distance driving, the engine almost always switches to 'limp home' mode (error code: intake manifold pressure control difference) when accelerating fully in first or second gear. It also shuts off in fourth or fifth gear, but only after I demand full torque at around 3000 RPM for about 5-6 seconds.
To fix this issue, you only need to drive about 150 kilometers at full speed on the highway, and it should resolve itself for 2-3 weeks.
Okay, it might be important: the date is 02/99.

Thorsten.

Could you please look to the left and read the article about variable turbine geometry?
