After I had unlocked and installed my VAG-COM 409.1, I wanted to check the injection timing on my Sharan, manufactured in 1998, with the AFN engine. This was due to a replaced cylinder head gasket and a renewed timing belt. I had purchased the VAG-COM adapter at the beginning of the year and had successfully used it several times to read error codes. Now, I am having the problem that I cannot select my engine (AFN) in the TDI graph, and the program keeps telling me "unexpected Data" when I start the TDI-Graph. Further, an error message appears when I give it a little gas.
I have a feeling that either I'm doing something fundamentally wrong, or the software isn't working correctly.
Thank you for your helpful answers,

Hello,
Please take a Screenshot of both the 'About' screen in the VAG-COM and the TDI timing checker.
Greetings, Rainer
[Edit]
Please test the following:
- Copy the "Scaling" folder from the "Plugins" directory.
- Place in the VAG-COM installation directory.
Then start the timing checker. In the basic settings mode, no gas should be added when checking the spray start.

Thank you for the prompt response, unfortunately, I was only able to respond today. I have taken the screenshots, but unfortunately, I don't have a way to upload the images to a server. Therefore, I will try sending a private message with an attachment.
I have followed the instructions for the changes, but unfortunately, without success.
Best regards, Hermann |

Hello,
The "unexpected Data" message is likely due to the use of a timing checker that is not compatible with the VAG-COM version, specifically a VCDS 805.1. D.h. es sieht so aus, als hättest du wahrscheinlich eine Menge Daten auf deiner Festplatte kopiert, weil in meinem Installationspaket nur eine ältere Version des betreffenden Programms enthalten ist.
The AFN might be missing from you due to a bug in the folder structure. I have just updated the 409 installation, available for download here:

Thank you, Rainer, for your help. A fresh installation has achieved the desired result with the software. Now, hopefully, one last question. In the TDI graph, the program says "SB is too late to be displayed". Is this possible, even though the engine is actually running relatively smoothly and can the adjustment be made by turning the fuel pump?
Thanks again for your help,
Hermann |

Okay. With the round-off, the Sb has nothing to do with it, rather with the starting behavior and with early/late Sb at idle/full load.
