Throttle Body Initial Setup with VCDS (Gasoline Engine) (Articles)

The following steps describe the throttle body basic adjustment with VCDS for most Audi, Seat, Skoda and Volkswagen with gasoline engines.

The throttle position sensor (TPS) baseline setting informs the engine control unit (ECU) about the throttle position at specific positions/load conditions. The TPS baseline setting is generally only useful in engines where the throttle is moved by a stepper motor controlled by the ECU.D.h. normally, there is also no blanking-stabilizing valve installed.

Reasons to perform a throttle body adjustment:

The vehicle battery was removed, disconnected, or discharged.
• A new throttle body was installed.
Maintenance work was performed on the accelerator pedal or it was replaced.
• The engine control unit (ECU) was replaced.
The throttle body was cleaned (dirt/oil residue).
• The following conditions must be met for the throttle body basic adjustment:

Engine control unit fault memory is empty.
• Battery voltage at least 11.5V.
Throttle position is at idle position (foot off gas)!
• Throttle is not dirty.
Coolant temperature between 5°C and 95°C.
• Vehicles with mechanical linkage to the throttle

Ignition ON, but engine not starting.

Set value block 098.

(Warning: Some SIMOS or Marelli control units use measurement block 001, e.g.ADY & AEE Engines.

After that, the VCDS display shows 'ADP RUN'.After the setting is complete, wait for approximately 30 seconds and then switch back to the data blocks and terminate the connection to the control unit.

During the procedure, remove your feet from the accelerator and turn off the engine!


Vehicles with electronic throttles that use KWP1281 for diagnostics

Ignition ON, but engine not starting.

Set value block 060.

After that, the VCDS display shows 'ADP RUN'.After the setting is complete, wait for approximately 30 seconds and then switch back to the data blocks and terminate the connection to the control unit.

During the procedure, remove your feet from the accelerator and turn off the engine!


Vehicles with electronic throttles that use KWP2000 or CAN for diagnostics

Ignition ON, but engine not starting.

Set value block 060.

[Okay!]

VCDS should display 'Default setting: OFF'.
Select [ON/OFF/Continue] to enable the default settings.

VCDS should now display 'Default Setting: ON'.

After the setting is complete, wait for approximately 30 seconds and then use [ON/OFF/Continue] to complete the basic setting (VCDS: 'Basic setting: OFF').

During the procedure, remove your feet from the accelerator and turn off the engine!
