I can't find any information about '01176 Key signal too small' in the error database.
My A3 wouldn't start. After reading and clearing the error codes, everything was okay again, but what was the cause?
The diagnostic tool isn't always available!
I need help.

Hello,
This can be caused by, for example:
- Faulty ignition switch rotor.
- Transition resistances in the cables are too high, possibly due to a loose connection. Tschüss

Thank you very much, Michael!
Unfortunately, it's difficult to address such a cause, especially since it's not currently occurring.
Is there a mobile diagnostic system that allows for reading and clearing error codes?

It could also be due to too many keys on the valve. This can also cause malfunctions.

Hi Michael,
For testing purposes, etc., I had a key made without a transponder.
When I turn the ignition on, the error message "Key signal too low" is also stored in the vehicle's fault memory system (WFS).
(actually, it should say "no key signal ")
Can these tiny transponders fail or malfunction in such a way that they no longer respond with sufficient signal strength ? Gruß Ulf

If the reading coil doesn't receive a signal or receives a very weak signal, the cause is obvious. However, after clearing the error, the problem doesn't reappear, which is frustrating. And it's difficult to find the root cause without the error recurring.

In the early models of the Audi A4, some issues have been reported with the cable connecting the ignition coil to the immobilizer control unit.
I don't know how it is with the A3, but could you maybe check it? I've resoldered this on 5 Audis, and they all work perfectly.
Greetings from South Tyrol.

Hello Ulf,
At university, I once conducted several measurement series using transponders (for logistics systems). Based on my experience, these devices almost never break. Tschüss
