The ESP system function test checks the plausibility of the signals from the accelerometer for lateral acceleration (G200), the rotational speed sensor (G202), and the brake pressure sensor (G201).
The ESP system function test should be carried out after all major work has been carried out on the braking/ABS/ESP system. In some cases, the ABS/ESP control unit automatically initiates the function test and sets the corresponding error code 01486.
This error code cannot be deleted; the function test must be completed and cannot be interrupted if initiated manually.
VCDS should be used during the function test.
not to be connected
Requirements:
- Vehicle is stationary, ignition ON, engine ON (running)
- The test should be carried out on a closed area, e.g. a parking lot.
- The entire test should be completed within 50 seconds after pressing the brake!
Procedure:
- Firm the brake pedal firmly, with a brake pressure of approximately 30 bar. The plausibility of the brake pressure sensor is indicated by a change in the warning light in the instrument panel.
- In Bosch ABS/ESP systems, the ASR/ESP warning (K155) turns OFF, and the ABS warning (K47) turns ON.
- In Continental/Teves systems, the ABS warning (K47) turns OFF, and the ASR/ESP warning (K155) turns ON.
- Drive straight at approximately 20 km/h (~13 mph).
- Turn the steering wheel between 90° (1/4 turn) and 180° (1/2 turn) to the left or right, and leave it in that position. Drive in a circle at approximately 20 km/h (13 mph), with a rotation rate of approximately 10 °/s. The Pl The sensitivity of the sensors for lateral acceleration and rotational speed is confirmed by the warning message in the instrument panel.
The test of the ABS/ESP system is now complete, and the error entry has been made.
