Hello,
I have a problem (not yet, but I'm sure it will happen soon).
I bought a 1995 Volkswagen Golf (3rd generation) that still has the original Alpha radio installed. Unfortunately, I can't find the code for that anywhere.
The salesperson also doesn't (company car)...
Okay, the radio is working, but it definitely won't work if I disconnect the battery. Is there a way to extract the code? Or is there a key generator based on the serial number, or something like that?
Unfortunately, I only found the 'expensive' way through the Bosch service. And I didn't really want to spend money on it. You understand this because of an 'alpha,' right?
Thank you in advance for your answers...
Hello.
P.S. This might be slightly off-topic, but maybe someone here has some advice?

Hi,
Who is the manufacturer?
If you sell the car to a VAG dealer, they can have the code calculated from the serial number through their distribution center. The missing code didn't cause any problems for me. Gruß Bertil

When I bought my Passat about 4 years ago, it was the same. The battery was disconnected, and the radio wasn't working! I went to the dealership, donated 5 Deutsche Mark to the coffee fund, and the issue was resolved in 5 minutes! They calculated the code based on the serial number. However, that was a beta version.

Thanks for your tips. I guess I'll have to go to the doctor then. I think that 'alpha' might be a blue dot.

Hello there,
Here's a VW Alpha steering wheel, red/blue, from a Golf 4. I've had it disassembled for the past 2 years, and just to let you know, it still works when I connect it to 12V. But why? Are newer radios no longer protected by software codes?

Hi Andi,

Yes, but the radio is "locked" to the vehicle. Once the radio is reinstalled in the original car, it will work without requiring a code.
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you which radio and car combinations support these features. I am only aware of the Gamma 5- (from VDO) that is used in VW Shanghai. This function can also be disabled in production. Gruß Bertil

I mean, the radio works when I just plug it into a power supply. Without the car. How is the marriage verified from the control unit?

He might not have a code (assumption).

Via the K-Bus from WFS. For those who have used VAG COM and wondered about the strange numbers displayed when reading the EDC (Electronic Data Carrier), one of them is the vehicle's VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), and another is the serial number of the radio. Gruß Bertil

Do you happen to know where the radio code is located?
According to the user manual, the workshop can provide me with this information, in case I want to sell the radio or use it in any way without the vehicle.
in which measurement block, either in the radio or the EDC?

I'm afraid I have to disappoint you. The code can only be calculated from the serial number of the radio. "The customer also inquired at the VZ (likely a company or organization), because only there is a so-called 'CodeBox' available." Gruß Bertil

Hello everyone, I have a question.
Can I program an Alpha radio with a known code into a Polo 9n's onboard diagnostics (OBD) system using VCDS?
The radio is only connected to the other control units via the K-line, not via the CAN bus.

Thank you for the information.
However, it now works automatically because I connected pin 5 and 7 to the constant positive terminal, and pin 4 to the switched positive terminal from the ignition switch, according to the wiring diagram. Once I entered the PIN, it worked, and now it works without it. After having the radio without power for the whole day, it went into sleep mode and then immediately became unlocked.

Oh yes, I forgot to mention... That was all so long ago ....
After entering the code "married," the radio automatically pairs with the vehicle. The code input will no longer be required after that. Gruß Bertil
