Steering Column Warranty: What You Need to Know

Bei unserem A4 Bj. 4/2000 und 60.000 Km entstehen beim Lenken Schleifgeräusche mir unbekannter Ursache aus dem Bereich des Lenkrades. Es hört sich an, als würde irgendwas an der Lenkradnabe scheuern. Die Werkstatt meint, die Lenksäule müsse getauscht werden. Kulanz: Absolutely nothing!
What options do I have? Shouldn't this be covered under a good will policy? What about self-repair? Does anyone else experience this problem?

'Mine does that occasionally too. The cause has always been dirt on the contact ring of the horn. To fix it, you can try threading a piece of sturdy fabric through the opening, guiding it to verschandeln the contact surface, and then pulling it out lengthwise along the contact ring to verschandeln it.'
Be careful when threading to ensure that the grinding contact does not get bent.

I checked today, and it's definitely not the contact point. The noise is coming from the joint area on the splash guard. There's a bearing there through which the steering column passes. It's not entirely clear, but I think the bearing itself is fixed, and the steering column is rotating inside the bearing. There's also some slight wear next to it. I also feel that the steering is becoming slightly stiffer.
It looks like getting to that part involves quite a bit of work. I would have preferred to have it done at the workshop if there was any warranty coverage.

Does anyone know more details about the terms and conditions regarding goodwill or concessions?

Since the goodwill conditions at VAG have changed, decisions are made on a case-by-case basis. However, since this is a defect that is not typical for the mileage of the vehicle, the chances of receiving goodwill coverage may be quite good.
