Hi.

"I've been hearing a very short squeaking sound when I start the tractor for a while now."

I now relaxed the tensioner pulley of the serpentine belt while the engine was running, and then slowly allowed it to re-engage and tighten again.

It made a noticeable squeaking sound.

I would say the role has a problem.
Or is the squealing that occurs when re-tensioning more likely normal belt squealing because the belt is again transmitting load?

Just spent 70 euros on a new one, but I wanted to be sure it was defective before buying it.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

Hi,
Try testing the roller while it's stationary to see if the bearing is still in good condition. Normally, the belts squeal, but the rollers tend to make a ringing sound.

I've also had a squeaking/chirping sound for years.

Initially, it only occurred when the engine was cold or in wet conditions, but later it became constant.
I initially thought it might be a problem with the freewheel mechanism. It wasn't, though.

The fault was with my tension spring. Replacement parts were available from aftermarket suppliers (Febi/Bilstein) for around €32, whereas the price from VW was over €60.

Did it come across as unprofessional?
It also made a squealing noise, like the belt was slipping, coming from the power steering pump.

I intentionally only replaced the alternator clutch first because I thought the noise was coming from there.

The noise was still there.
It wasn't until I replaced the tensioner that the problem stopped.
And it's been over 6,000 km since the last issue.

So, the servo pump should be okay (even though they tend to fail on the 8E model).
