Hello,

Does anyone know off the top of their head how many liters...? Is coolant used in the engine cooling system of the 1.4 16V BUD engine with 80 horsepower in the Golf V?

Are there any specific things to be aware of when refueling a Volkswagen Golf V? I would have completely drained the coolant from the lower hose, replaced the damaged hoses, and then filled the system with a 40:60 mixture as usual. I would have started the engine, possibly added more coolant, until the system was full again.

Can G12+ be used to fill the aluminum block, or is G12++ absolutely necessary? Currently, it's definitely G12+ (pink) that's in it, and not G12++ (purple).

Greetings.

The antifreeze is okay. Do not fill to the very top edge; this prevents proper filling and makes it harder for air to escape.

Be careful with the open or loose radiator cap, and let the engine run at a slightly higher RPM until the thermostat opens (the heating should start to get warm during the warm-up phase). A test drive should only be conducted after that.
Once it has cooled down again --> adjust the coolant level.

There are also filling devices, which work by removing the air from the empty cooling system and then filling it completely in one go using a suction hose.

I guess he's interested in knowing the exact amount of filler needed to achieve the desired mixture. "According to the owner's manual for my Golf, that's the recommended amount. Otherwise, I would start by adding an initial 4 liters and see how it goes, then add another liter later."

To do this, the cooling system would need to be completely drained, which is often impossible.

The easiest way to catch it is to collect what spills out. The set of (+-) will then emerge automatically. icon_wink.gif

Thank you for the information.

The problem is that the cooling system is almost empty, so while it's possible to catch the leaking coolant, I'm planning to completely refill it anyway.

I think I'll just make a 2-liter batch of the 40:60 mixture again and add it in small portions.

I'm familiar with the process of letting it run and constantly shaking it. How about the Golf V with the pressure relief valve? Is that a common failure point when opening it? For the Golf IV, many people say to avoid it and just disconnect the hose instead.

Just so that it doesn't leak later.

I would also "carefully" release the hose. The faucet evokes a sense of being in China.

Yes, because I've never been able to rely on that faucet, sooner or later it's going to break off...

Okay,

Everything worked perfectly. My idea to drive onto two high ramps paid off; only the front radiator emptied, not the engine block. About 2 liters of coolant leaked out, that's all. So, I avoided the annoying process of bleeding the system, filled it up, let it warm up, took it for a thorough test drive, added another 500ml, and it was all good.
