Change Tax ID: How to Do It Easily.

Hello everyone,

I'm having a problem where the control unit for the instrument panel insert in my VW Up! (year 2012) has a value of 999999 entered under the device number.
Without changing this value, it is not possible to make any changes to the control unit.

Can I change the device number of the control unit using VCDS, and if so, how?

As is often the case in these situations, an automatic scan would be helpful so that a proper answer can be provided to your question. Please perform this scan and post the results before taking any further action.

Within the VCDS program settings, on the "Interface and Identification" tab, you can enter the operating number, dealer/importer number, and device number. This data will then be used when making changes.

If it were my car, I would personally select the values from the car scan that are relevant to me and enter them there. Of course, the actual values from the respective system or tool should be included.

I just tried it, but it didn't work. You can't code or customize anything because of that "999999" number.

Ich habe noch herausgefunden, dass dieser Zustand, d.h. weil das Motorsteuergerät auch einen anderen Werkstattcode besitzt als die anderen Steuergeräte, auf eine mögliche Tachomanipulation hindeuten kann. Na super!

No, you haven't figured it out. Because it is utter nonsense.
It's possible that 999999 is unusual, but I don't want to rule out the possibility that it's normal, since the numbers on my vehicles are completely random.
For example, my wife's A3 was brand new and I picked it up myself, and it also has different identifiers. Similarly, my A6 was picked up with 0 km from Audi in Ingolstadt.

It would have been more interesting to know which values you have now configured in the VCDS program settings.

I also had this code configured in VCDS, but as I said, it seems like nothing can be done with that "999999" value.

And I can't imagine that this value of 999999 could be considered normal; otherwise, VCDS would certainly be able to handle it, see...
