Hello everyone,
Since the aforementioned... To my knowledge, this turbocharger was only standard equipment on engines with a transverse (cross-mounted) configuration. I'm interested to know if the available space in an A4 with a longitudinal AFN engine allows for the installation of this turbocharger.
The compressor outlet would need to be twisted and adapted accordingly, but the vacuum chamber of the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) adjustment might cause problems, as it appears to be facing downwards and could therefore collide with the longitudinal support structure.
Has anyone ever done a similar modification on an A4 B5 or a Passat 3B, and could offer some advice?
Thank you very much in advance.
Best regards,
Daniel.

Take a look at an AVF charger with a manifold compared to an ARL charger.
The chargers designed for side mounting extend downwards significantly, while those designed for lengthwise mounting extend downwards very little, almost exclusively to the side. Therefore, it is not the can itself, but the entire charger that will collide with the motor mount. MfG. Michael

Can the stern section of a VB (V-hull boat) be implanted into a V or VA (triangular hull) configuration?
If the housings actually fit, the next question would be whether the position of the VTG lever, which is determined by the respective fuselage assembly, would be correct.
Best regards,
Daniel

Why so complicated? There are various turbochargers designed for lengthwise engine installation that are even suitable for higher performance levels than the GT1749VB.
If your software expert isn't a pushover, they can also tell you which ones.
And if he can't do it, he's probably too stupid to properly adapt the software for it.

Of course, there are more suitable turbochargers available, but I could currently get a good GT1749VB with 170,000 km on it, and I find that GT17 turbochargers with damaged compressor housings are offered for sale at reasonable prices in sufficient quantities. If the modular system allows it, I would like to experiment with it a bit.
I haven't gotten around to having any software installed yet, and there's no rush to do so. I own the Audi purely out of a love for the 'old' technology.

People who are piecing together old junk probably don't have the money for decent software. Fact.
And those who don't have the resources shouldn't be conducting such questionable experiments (the described project, by the way, won't work mechanically) on a vehicle that is still in operation.
I don't care what is or isn't done to the car, and whether the person asking has money for a turbocharger or not.
Free consultations for projects that are essentially nonsense and clutter the forum, as well as support for "Flacheisen" tuners, are not offered and will not be provided.
