Thank you very much for reading.
VW 1.6TD engine, RA model, 80 horsepower, installed in a first-generation Caddy.
A friend of mine has experienced this problem for the second time: the fuel injection line for the second cylinder has ruptured/broken.
I initially thought the cables were installed under tension, but that wasn't the case.
The installed pipes were in brand-new condition.

Thank you in advance for any helpful suggestions.

Hi,

There are connectors that, if I remember correctly, are screwed either onto two individual wires or across all four wires. This helps to avoid vibrations and, consequently, prevents long-term fatigue cracks.
Is the fuel injection pump really securely fastened at all mounting points, including the ones at the rear of the ESP (Electronic Stability Program unit)?

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you for the quick response.
I cannot answer that question, as the acquaintance only came to my place to pick up the antlers.
Unfortunately, I don't know if the pump is properly connected. However, I am aware of several cases where this connection was loose or completely missing.
I think he might have installed the entire "Geweih" system, not just that one cable.
But it's strange that it's the fuel line for the second cylinder again.
Can the nozzle be damaged by backpressure from compression or combustion?

The nozzle might be partially clogged; you can remove and clean it. However, you should notice this in the engine's running behavior.

Best regards, Rainer.

Thank you very much icon_smile_thumb_up.gif - I will forward it. I already gave him the incentive to check the nozzles yesterday. Any agricultural machinery workshop should be able to do that.

Hello.

I've only seen this issue with VW pipes, specifically when the fitting is overtightened.
It usually only works correctly once before something breaks if you tighten it too much.
After that, the conical head tapers as it transitions to the cable, and the crimp forces a sharp edge from the back into the transition, creating a stress concentration, and the cable typically runs directly along the crimp.

The older Daimler-Benz engines had a special support sleeve underneath the cover for this purpose. The torque point at which the cover "locks" is also quite hard there.
I'm familiar with those VW lines without a support sleeve, and I find them to be quite soft.
Possibly tighten the bolts with the correct torque, but also inspect the lines for any pre-existing damage on the rear of the cones.

As Rainer already mentioned, the bridges must be properly installed between the cables, otherwise the cables will vibrate.

Regards, Mpire.

Here are two pictures for comparison, showing DB and VW, both with a 6mm drill bit.
