Maybe you can help me.
I recently removed the dashboard from my Polo 9N3. Of course, this also includes the steering wheel and the steering column controls.
After I had reassembled everything, I received the following error message in the control unit for the brake electronics:
00778 - Steering angle sensor (G85), 005 - No or incorrect basic setting/adaptation.
My first thought was that I might not have properly plugged in the connector on the steering column switch. However, measurement block 005 already provides the correct steering angle.
I believe the steering knuckle is also not installed twisted.
If I try to perform the "Steering Angle Sensor Zero Offset Adjustment (G85)", I receive the error message "Block 001 not available".
An alternative solution is also described. However, I can't find the point "Steering angle sensor initialized/not initialized."
"From my experience with Passat 3B models, I know that a specific procedure needs to be followed to calibrate the steering angle sensor, starting with pressing the brake pedal for a certain amount of time. Please look up this procedure for the 9N model."
And I once had to try countless times to get rid of all the error messages on a Passat 3C.

Ah, it seems VCDS is only necessary to initiate the pairing process.
The adaptation process can also be performed without a connected VCDS device. Just drive straight for a short distance, then turn the steering wheel fully to the right and hold it for a moment, then do the same to the left.
