ECU Read Error: Troubleshooting Guide

Hello.

I bought an adapter on eBay to read the error codes from my car's computer.
The adapter is from "ProChip" (Interface 9141) and is designed for OBD II and ISO standards.
During the first attempt to read the vehicle's memory using a shareware version of the program...
However, I had no success with VAGCOM version 302.2. The only component that seemed to work was the ABS brake control unit, which was recognized. All other functions yielded no results.
The following message appeared during the test under "Options":

Com Port Status: OK.
Interface Status 0 - Found OK.
Fast Sync compatible: no.

Otherwise, the following error message appeared:

"Unable to synchronize baud rate."
or
"Control unit not responding."

We then tried adjusting the values "Blk Int", "Char Int", and "KW2" (as described under "Adapter" in the diesel community), but it didn't achieve anything.
However, I have absolutely no knowledge of electronics. If anyone has a tip in that area, please describe it in a way that even a complete beginner can understand.

About the vehicle:
Audi 80 1.9 TDI, manufactured in December 1993.
Engine 1Z.
2x2 connector.

Should I use an older version of VAGCOM, or is the problem located elsewhere?
Where can I download a suitable version?

I would be very grateful for any advice that helps to solve the problem.

First of all, thank you to everyone who sent me an answer to my questions (including those who sent them via personal email).
I will only be able to respond at longer intervals, as I currently don't have access to a laptop, and I have to wait until the weekend for an acquaintance who can provide one so that I can run another test.
I have now set the baud rate to 240, but unfortunately, I have not had any success and have been unable to communicate with my control unit.
While reading the manual for version 0.81 beta, I found the sentence stating that VAG-COM does not work with the control units of Audi 80 TDI models manufactured in 1993/94.
Is this issue resolved in the following VAG-COM versions (starting with which version), or could that be the reason why I'm not getting any results?
Whether my interface is the cause of the failure is still uncertain (ProChip).
"Does anyone else own an Audi 80 from 1993 with a 1Z engine? If so, could you share your experiences with me regarding hardware, software, and settings?"
Perhaps someone reading this post lives in the Dresden/Chemnitz area and would be interested in exchanging personal experiences.

With a 'simple' interface, you have almost no chance of working with the Audi 1Z engine control units from 1991-1994. These control units are so sensitive to timing protocols that it's impossible to maintain the necessary timing using a Windows program and a simple interface. However, it works perfectly with an intelligent HEX-COM interface.
