Hi.
I have a 1Z engine with the part number 028 906 021 AF - which is the engine control unit (ECU) that's known for causing the wastegate valve to rattle.
"The GG (presumably a device or system) only does that if the engine is actually running, which seems much more logical to me."
If I had a "motor running" signal now, I could disable the N75 valve when the ignition is on but the engine is off (and later use it to control my idea for the shut-off valves).
Is there such a signal (other than the D+ terminal of the alternator)?

Hm,
Besides the D+ signal, all the other signals are still pulsed, meaning they are still clocked and not at a stable level to which I could easily connect a relay.
Thank you in advance.

What about the OT or NH sensors? They should also, although perhaps not ideally, reliably indicate whether the motor is running or stopped, right?
Best regards, WarLord.

Hey Gustav, don't be offended.
I haven't completely ignored or rejected your suggestions, but if there's a simple "level" signal available (which, for example, might normally be used for something else, like an air conditioner), it would be easier to use that than to integrate based on speed pulses.

But I'd like to ask Christians and s.e.-chef-joergs: Am I perhaps already stepping into another awkward situation?
Okay, I'm saying it again: you really need to leave that boss! I didn't lock the thread, even though the mouse cursor moved in that direction a few times! But the fact that it *was* locked proves to me that there are other people who didn't find your comments to be *that* useful.
From now on, I will ignore your snide remarks and/or hope that you might reduce them a little. There was no reason to insult the Audi owner like that, especially since it wasn't even relevant to the topic!
But enough off-topic talk for now!

I already mentioned the crankshaft position sensor (CKP), which you call the 'OT sensor,' as a possibility.
Hmm, I've learned something new again. I thought those were two different things.
Best regards, WarLord.

Hello,
If you can obtain an STG schema, you can see that there are 2 brackets.
Activate the relays for the coolant heating system!
'Older TDI models didn't have coolant heating, but the control unit is prepared for it!'
It operates with 12 volts.
Dear Marco (NL),
Sorry for my bad German.

@marco
However, the cooling water is only heated when the temperature is sufficiently low.
When exactly? Because the 1Z model doesn't have an external temperature sensor!
And I don't want to be dependent on whether it's cold or warm, but rather on whether the engine is running or not.

I'd also like to chime in. One possibility would be to monitor the starter battery voltage. I think that anything above, say, 13.2-13.5 volts with the engine running could indicate a problem! However, it's also risky with many power-consuming devices and, in my opinion, the idle speed.
I'm not sure about your electronics knowledge, but a good alternative is to take the speed signal from the sensor, digitize it using an analog-to-digital converter (ADC), and process it using an AVR or PIC microcontroller. If you like, I can draw you a schematic and write a small program for a basic AVR. The cost of the components might be around 7-10 euros.
