One more thing,
I'm finally getting my TDI 150PD PD next week.
My question is, how do I properly break in the engine to achieve optimal performance later?
In the past, it was recommended to change the oil after approximately 3,000 km to remove any metal particles that might have been produced during the engine's initial break-in period. Is this still a good practice today, or is it just an unnecessary expense?

'Break-in period... hmm... Just drive the first 1,200-1,300 kilometers slowly, with a light load and not too fast. Then you can start giving it a little more gas. After 1,500 to 1,600 kilometers, you can take it on the highway and see what it can do... I did it that way (with my last car and my new one)... The result: no oil consumption and good performance.'

Hi!
I was told by my dealer, after inquiring in Ingolstadt, that the PD engine requires a minimum of 15,000 km of break-in period.
I can confirm this from my own experience; after approximately 13,000 km, my car started consuming noticeably less engine oil and fuel, and the engine also ran more smoothly.
Best regards,
Jürgen

Hello!
I followed the instructions precisely for the break-in period of my 130cc motorcycle, meaning I almost never used full throttle, avoided very low RPMs (below 1200-1300 RPM), and also avoided high RPMs (above 3000 RPM). The maximum speed I allowed on the road was 150 (which is roughly 3000 RPM).
After the initial break-in period (in my case, up to 1400 km), the car's speedometer showed 205 km/h, which translated to approximately 195 km/h in reality. I was very disappointed because the manufacturer's stated top speed was 205 km/h.
The car is now (at 7000 km) achieving approximately 215 km per tank of fuel with the same driving style, and using about 0.3 - 0.5 liters less.
I used to not believe in such things because my 1997 AFN engine in my Golf ran so well and had such low fuel consumption from the very beginning, just as well as it did when it had 120,000 km on the clock.
I've also heard from others that improvements can be seen up to 10,000 to 15,000 kilometers.

Hi, I can only confirm what Jürgen said. I drove my PD (AJM 115hp) very gently for the first approximately 3000 km (no full throttle). After that, as soon as it was warm, it would occasionally misfire! It ran until about 15000 km at a speed of 195 km/h, then about 205 km/h, and the fuel consumption also decreased by 0.5 liters.
Best regards,
Stefan

When would you recommend chip tuning or a tuning box for a new engine?
Is it better to start right away, or wait until after the break-in period?

@Holy...
My personal opinion is to drive the car for at least 10,000 km first, because often it's only after 10,000 km that the fuel consumption and performance settle into a "normal" range. Then you can decide whether you really "need" a chip tuning. Also, you can only be relatively sure at that point that you don't have a defective car and that the engine won't become a warranty case, which makes the process significantly more difficult when handled through the tuner.
Regards,
Olaf.
