Hello.

I'm new here and I'm facing the decision of which engine to choose for my Passat Estate (station wagon). Currently, I have two options: a Variant built in 2/1999 with 158,000 km on the clock, white, with air conditioning, navigation, etc., for €9700. Or a Variant built in 6/1997 with 132,000 km on the clock, red metallic, with the same equipment as the other, for €9900. What should I do, especially considering potential tuning options? Also, when did the Passat actually start meeting Euro 3 emissions standards?

'Thank you.'

hello
I forgot the most important thing: the white one has 90 horsepower, and the red one has 110 horsepower.

I'm also currently looking at a Passat. However, there are a few more factors to consider in my case. I wouldn't go for a 3B model manufactured before 1999 (due to known issues). If you can find one with 110 horsepower, you're probably making a good choice (I'm also considering getting a V6 TDI with 150 horsepower myself).

Best regards, WarLord.

hello

It would be great if one of them reached 110,000 miles. The white one, manufactured in 1999, already has 158,000 km (approximately 98,000 miles), and I'm not sure if that's a good sign.

What are you all so afraid of when it comes to mileage? I still believe that the condition of the vehicle is, in almost every case, the most important factor.

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi, I wouldn't buy the '97 model because 1. it has green cockpit lighting, and 2. it has older electronics. Models from 11/97 onwards, with blue instrument panel lighting, have better control units (with more OBD functions that can be switched on). Euro 3 for TDI PD engines came later, but it's not that interesting because Euro 2 and 3 are quite similar in terms of emissions (about 20 euros per year). The mileage isn't a problem; I have a 4/98 model with 110 hp (81 kW) that has about 240,000 km on it, and so far I've only had to replace the mass airflow sensor, the front crankshaft seal, and the door locks. I also wouldn't buy the first PD TDI engine because many of those engines have defects (blown engines) after about 170,000 km. The best option is the 81 kW (110 hp) model from 1999, either Trendline or Comfortline, definitely with air conditioning and metallic paint, and preferably with remote central locking. Are the two vehicles mentioned above from a dealer because of the price?

Okay, thanks. But wasn't it the case that all vehicles manufactured from 1998 onwards comply with the Euro 3 standard?
Do you need something? Yes, the cars are from the dealer because I still have a problem with my Audi A4 2.6 Quattro.
