Hey, I picked up my 90hp TDDI Focus from the dealer today. My AGR valve was broken and it was replaced today, along with the intake manifold. So far, so good, the performance is normal, everything seems fine. However, I suddenly hear a 'turbo whistling' sound? I couldn't find any cracks or anything like that, and the hoses are new and seem to be sealed properly. Could it be coming from the intake manifold/AGR valve?

Hello, what kind of defect did you have? So, if the EGR valve was always open, you would have experienced a lack of power, which would have prevented your turbocharger from working properly. Now, as you say, the engine has power again. Does your turbocharger occasionally whistle, or is it excessively loud?
A whistling sound doesn't necessarily indicate a defect.

The turbo whistles constantly, not excessively loud. The AGR seemed to be faulty, but I couldn't detect a significant loss of power. Occasionally, it lacked a bit of power. We only discovered the AGR defect somewhat by chance when we wanted to install the latest software version. Since there is still a warranty, it was replaced immediately .

The funny thing is, all the people I know and ask (even at the club) don't have any turbo whistle sounds with their Ford diesel engines.

"A friend of mine also has a TDDI (I think it's the 90 HP 1.8L engine, right?). I haven't noticed any whistling sounds from his either, probably because the engine has a rather rough running sound. However, I wouldn't worry too much unless the noise sounds concerning and the car doesn't have any issues with acceleration (…you have a warranty, so go back to Ford and tell them it's making strange noises. That way, you'll have it documented in case something goes wrong, and everything will be okay!)."

Yes, the warranty is more than sufficient (4 years, and only 1 year has passed so far ). I will go there again on Monday to clarify this. The performance is excellent, and with the new EGR, you can really feel the turbo now .

Okay, so, I went to the friendly technician again, and the cause of the whole problem was an error during the installation of the latest software. I reinstalled it, and the whistling is gone, the airflow is there . You wouldn't believe what all can cause problems .
