Hi there,
about the car:
Audi A4 8E Avant, 96kW TDI.
Oct. 2001
5 gears.
45,000 km
The following problem:
When driving in third gear and downshifting to second using engine braking, the car makes a very loud 'clack-clack' noise. It sounds very dull, but also quite harsh.
However, even when using reverse gear and releasing the clutch, this noise is still present, although it's quieter because the load is lower.
In my opinion, it's the engine or transmission mount(s).
Or something else entirely?
Who knows this problem?
What is the cost of a storage unit?
Sure, here's the translation:
'Goodwill?'
As soon as Audi opens the hood, they want money, is that normal?
Thank you all.
Sausage blinkers.

It's the gearbox bearing! It's completely worn out.
If we're unlucky, the engine mounts might also be damaged, and in that case, the bumper needs to be removed for access.
Is it complicated to put the bumper into service position?
Thank you and...
Best regards,

Can anyone estimate the approximate cost of the replacement?

I'm going to a friend's workshop tomorrow, and we're going to replace the transmission mount first.
That thing costs 60 euros.
Then we'll see if it's gone!

Sure, I can translate the text for you and then briefly explain how complex the exchange process is and what to keep in mind.
Here's the translation:
"Perhaps you could explain afterwards how complicated the exchange was and what one needs to consider when doing it."

Sure, no problem.
Do you have the same problem? How many kilometers are on it?

Okay,
Everything worked out!
The change took about half an hour. We had the car on a lift, and to remove the bearing, we supported the transmission on the ground and lowered the car slightly. This freed the bearing, allowing it to be removed.
The noises are gone, and the old bearing is definitely at the end of its life. However, I can't understand how this could happen after only 45,000 kilometers. 'Made in Germany' means something different to me!
Regards,

So, no excessive effort involved? Did you use the original part or a replacement from a supplier?

The effort required is a joke.
We used an original part because there was nothing available as an accessory. But I think €60 is still a reasonable price!

"How exactly did you verify whether the component was present in stock or had already been sold out? Was it only possible to determine this by physically removing the item?"
