Hello everyone,
as the electronic pressure regulator (ESP) of my car (VAG: 028 130 109 L / Bosch: 460 404 992) (1.9 TDI, manufactured in 03/94, 1Z) seems to be defective,
one can find a large number of 1Z ESPs on eBay or at scrap yards, however, they usually do not have the "L" appended to the VAG number.
Could one theoretically replace the "L" pump with an "H" or "J" pump??If it were only the cable that differed, this would probably not be a major issue, but I can't find any list of the differences... sometimes the Bosch numbers also don't end with "992" but for example with "994" or "995" - does anyone have any information about this??Thank you! Tino |

I had the exact same question before.
/viewtopic.php?t=5361
The problem is that even for people in the forum, it's difficult to say exactly what the differences are (Sorry, I don't mean to offend anyone!). I believe that only the people at Bosch themselves know. Of course, you can only be sure if you have a pump with the same part number. In my opinion, the difficulty doesn't just lie in possibly different connectors or connections, but it's also possible that the fuel pumps are controlled differently electronically, which makes things complicated. Basically, you can only try, but who do you get a pump for testing? I think I'll try it and install a different pump. If I manage to do it, I'll write it here in the forum!
Best regards, Torsten |

My answer was approximately like this:
The ESPs differ significantly due to the connector, as this allows you to determine what type of potentiometer or HDK sensor is installed.
These are NOT compatible with each other.

A phone call to the dealership revealed: The "... 109 L" was likely replaced by the "M", which in turn was replaced by the "N".
Whoever has a L or M will receive an N today if they have the ESP replaced (and pay in Euros). |

@ Tino
Seriously, what's the name of the person who can give such competent answers??? I've never experienced anything like this before! Can you also tell me if it's possible to install a 028 130 110 H pump (from an AHU) where a 028 130 115N pump (from a 1Z) was previously installed? Thank you!

I can't tell you that, but the friendly one was...
Steinbach & Schaefer GmbH & Co. KG
Bahnhofstr. 92
53123 Bonn
Phone: 0228/648060
The 109 J (Bosch 995) was installed until serial number 128.000. I don't know the successor models (I wasn't interested in them).
From 128,0000, the 109 L (Bosch 992) was installed, which was followed by the 109 M, which in turn was replaced by the 109 N.
Da habe ich aber direkt mal noch ´ne schlaue Frage: Sind J und Nachfolger Poti-ESPs und L, M und N die mit Induktion??? |

Hi Tino.
The J (also JX – exchange pumps) are definitely potentiometers. I've just installed a new one with a Poti (and JX) inside.
I don't know if the J before the switch to HDK had a successor (which I don't believe),
By next week. Please also let me know what time works best for you.
Greetings
Hermann |
