Another AFB engine issue - I know this has been described many times before, but I'm still stuck.

'The engine has 83,000 km on it - mostly city driving, not much highway - I just bought it. It has a top speed of around 210-220 km/h according to the speedometer, but it's very slow to reach that speed. No black smoke, fuel consumption is over 10 liters, and it's running at around 4000-4500 rpm, which is very high.'

Audi supposedly tested the mass airflow sensor (MAF) and got a reading of 865 mg/h. However, there are no error codes stored, so the MAF sensor is supposedly okay.

And now?

My old 5-cylinder A6 TDI used to perform much better and consume less fuel.

and now??

Hi,

Have you considered that yet?
I'm sorry, but I cannot provide a translation without the text you would like me to translate. Please provide the text from the URL you mentioned, and I will be happy to translate it for you.
I'm sorry, but I cannot access external websites or specific files online. Therefore, I am unable to translate the text from the provided URL.
While it's mainly written for 1.9 TDI engines, much of it can also be applied to other engines.

I'm familiar with both threads - the filters, etc., are all okay. Audi conducted a test drive after my complaint, which is why the value of 865 was determined. According to Audi, the other values should be within the acceptable range.

'Audi statement: For a longer trip on the highway at high speed, if the current condition is not ideal, continue searching for a better workshop. I am scheduled to drive 650 km on the highway tomorrow and will be returning.'

What is the typical fuel consumption and top speed for an A6 AFB with a 6-speed transmission?

Hi Joee,

Have you taken a closer look at the AGR?

'865 mg/h? That's what my 1.9L PD TDI with 115 horsepower produces under full load, in the range of 2,000 to 4,000 RPM (rough estimates). Therefore, I suspect the mass airflow sensor (MAF) is failing, as mine is already at the lower end of the range (and probably also defective, since I have a slight misfire between 2,300 and 2,700 RPM).'

Best regards, WarLord.

Hello,

Perhaps it would be helpful to mention that it's a 6-cylinder engine, and that the air mass is specified in milligrams per stroke. And, of course, that value should be considerably higher in a 4-cylinder engine.

The air mass value is excellent! It seems much too high to me (did Audi cheat?). Which AFB (Air Flow Balance) actually reaches the target value? VAG states that the limit is 750 mg.

I would check the amount of soot, the torque limit, and the fuel injection amount. Perhaps the exhaust is blocked (although that might also affect the amount of air).

By the way, mine also only goes up to 210 km/h, but it's an automatic transmission as well!
However, the air mass value ranges from 700 to 4000 RPM. This is actually not unusual.

Best regards, Manuel.

Good morning.

From my perspective, it's not necessary to discuss a single air mass value here. The significance of this individual value is more or less negligible.
'The decision is based on the setpoint value of the controller and the resulting mass flow rate. I believe that statements about the state of a mass flow controller without continuous logging are not reliable.'

On Monday, I drove 620 km on the highway, and on Tuesday evening, I drove the same distance back.

Suddenly, 'it' accelerates all the way to almost 230 km/h on the speedometer - so it seems to have been completely clogged up before - icon_lol.gif The fuel consumption is now below 10 liters per 100 km with aggressive driving on the highway.

'The measurements come from the original protocol (which I personally reviewed), and while I believe the value should be at least 750, I will still have the AGR checked.'

Tomorrow, he's going to Audi, and the engine control unit will be modified by Becker & Bendler. They can also check the EGR valve at the same time.

@Manuel V

You're right, I got that mixed up. Considering that, my previous statement should be considered invalid.

Best regards, WarLord.

icon_lol.gif icon_biggrin.gif icon_biggrin.gif now it's back from Audi or B&B.

'It performs incredibly well! Top speed is approximately 245 km/h, and the torque is fantastic.'
