Hello,

I built a diagnostic adapter based on Maik's circuit diagram and used it to read the data from my 1993 VW Vento. The adapter only detects the ABS control unit (number 03) and can read its error memory. The engine control unit (number 01) is not detected. What could be the reason for that?

Thank you very much.

Holmson.

Did you connect the L-wire?

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

Hello,

The L-line is connected. It's strange that one control unit is found while another isn't. Could it be that the ABS control unit only requires the K-line, while the engine electronics require both K and L? Perhaps there's something wrong with the L-line? I actually checked it.
Or do I perhaps need to adjust the transmission parameters?

It's a gasoline engine (am I still allowed to be here?). It's a 1.8L engine with 66kW, and the engine code (according to the internet) is 'ABS'. Where exactly are they?

Thank you very much.

Holmson.

Yes, of course.

I have two vehicles ready to go.

a 1995 Ibiza and a very old A6 2.8.
For both, the engine control unit requires the L-wire, but none of the others.

I don't know for sure whether your specific engine's data can be read.

We have the 1.8 engine in the Golf III, manufactured in 1995, but it only has 75 horsepower. There's nothing to read out from that either... However, my adapter does not have a neutral wire.

edit: changed the smiley back to 1.8. gremlin
