Hello,

in der Suche habe ich speziell zum AXR-Motor nichts gefunden. Ich dachte immer TDIs pfeifen erst wenn der Turbo einsetzt. Bei meinem Golf (AXR) pfeift es schon im Leerlauf recht laut. Is this normal?

Greetings from Wiesbaden.

Holger.

Hi,

"There's no whistling sound coming from my AXR when it's idling."

There might be a leak somewhere in the speaker area. In my case, it was caused by the LLK (likely referring to a specific component).

Hello Bertil,

Thank you for the response. Does your engine actually whistle? The workshop said the whistling is normal. The performance seems normal, but if there's a leak, the performance should be lower.

Regards,

Holger.

Yes, under load, when the turbo is working correctly, it makes a slight whistling sound.

Not necessarily.
Jan6K and I both had a leaky LLK (low-pressure cooling system), but mine didn't cost any performance (I think Jan's also didn't, but he just noticed it).

I'll try to find the post... it might take a while.

Hi,

Yep, in my case, the leaking coolant only caused a loud whistling sound around 2000 RPM and increased smoke development. The performance was still fully there.

Best regards,

Jan.

Hello,

Okay, when I got the car, the plastic trim on the right front fender was partially torn off. I think the noise must be coming from near the power steering cooler. I'll take a look under the trim that the workshop has since attached tomorrow. The whistling should be coming from near the leak. Let's see if it gets louder when I remove the trim. I'm already monitoring the oil consumption because I just got the car.

Regards,

Holger.

Okay, so this is the most sensitive part of the G4.
The standard LLK (likely referring to a specific type of container or equipment) is very fragile. I just sat on a pile of snow, and it was already leaking. Unfortunately, you couldn't see the leak.

Hello,

Okay, so I went to a different dealer this time. It was VW Klein in Sossenheim. Has anyone had any experience with that place? I was very satisfied. The master technician spent over an hour with me trying to locate the problem. It seems there was a modified pipe related to the AGR system that wasn't installed in my car. It's now been ordered and will be installed on Tuesday.
There was nothing on the LLK (likely referring to a specific part of a machine), and I examined it carefully on the stage. I didn't see any oil leaks, and everything looked perfectly clean.
I'm curious to see if the problem will be fixed by Tuesday.

Regards,

Holger.

Hello again,

I picked up the Golf from the workshop yesterday. The whistling noise is still there even after they replaced the pipe. Today, I'm getting a new turbocharger... I'm curious to see what happens.

Regards,

Holger.

WHAT???

If you have too much money, feel free to give it to me!

Why a new turbo? Who's going to pay for it? Do you know how much it costs?

*surprised*

Hello,

The Golf is still under warranty, of course. It's one of the last models that came off the production line (Pacific).
The turbo wasn't it icon_wink.gif. Tomorrow, the exhaust pipe and the catalytic converter will be checked. But that whistling is really annoying. It's very loud and clear when idling.

Regards,

Holger.

Are we now seeing a period of chaotic and unpredictable changes because we're not really sure what to do next?

Hello,

It seems like (a sex change frenzy).
I'm also not sure what it could be (training and studies in automotive technology). The coolant seems to be leaking. I would have thought it was most likely the turbo. I can't really imagine it being the catalytic converter. Since it was once a rental car, I'm actually quite happy with the new turbo. The vehicle was very cheap, but it was probably rarely driven when fully warmed up.
I'm not sure if there's a pre-pump or something like that in the PD engines, and if so, where it's located in the Golf. It could certainly be something like that. Let's see. The service at my workshop is definitely great, even though I didn't buy the car there.

Regards,

Holger.

My ATD also whistles slightly at idle. It has full power, doesn't smoke, and doesn't sound unhealthy.

Yes.

PDs have a pre-feed pump, but where is it located?
