Squeaking noises coming from the area of the dust boot on the steering column/steering linkage.
Cause:
The squeaking noise is caused by friction between the sealing ring on the engine side of the sealing sleeve and the plastic guide sleeve on the steering intermediate shaft.
Solution:
The defect can be rectified by applying a lubricant to the contact surface between the sealing ring and the sleeve.
"Required:"
- Lubricant G 052 172 A1
Disposable syringe.
- A tube approximately 70 cm long (e.g., a piece of brake line) or a similar tool, if available.
Execution:
-(Vehicle lifted and detached from the chassis):
"A few drops of the lubricant are applied from the engine compartment using a disposable syringe and an attached tube, onto the sealing ring of the steering column and the sliding sleeve of the steering shaft, in the area where the two parts come into contact."
- Apply the drops in several places around the circumference.
- Then, turn the steering wheel completely from lock to lock to distribute the lubricant.
The tube should only lightly touch the sealing ring during the application process; excessive pressure can damage the sealing ring! Tschüss
