Hello.
I'd be interested to know what the final speed is when...
Engine power: - as indicated on the vehicle registration document, with either a 5-speed or 6-speed manual transmission.
are specified and whether they are being adhered to.
For my 6-speed TDI with 96 kW, the top speed is registered as 205 km/h.
What is the difference in translation between a 5-speed and a 6-speed transmission?
I don't know what to do with the numbers in the GKB mapping on DS.de.
Should the top speed also be reached in 5th gear? Golf 4 TDI PD 96 KW 6 Gang ASZ ERF

Regarding the ASZ engine in a Golf IV, I don't have any information. However, for a Passat 3B with a ATJ engine (115 hp PD with 310 Nm) and a 6-speed transmission (ELN or similar): According to the registration document, it has a top speed of 194 km/h, but it exceeds that (the speedometer indicates just under 210 km/h, which probably corresponds to a real speed of 205 km/h).
Best regards, WarLord.

When it comes to the Golf, there's no comparison to be made, as only a 6-speed manual transmission was offered for the ASZ engine.
"With the current A4 96 kW TDI (sedan), there's no longer a comparable model with a 5-speed transmission, as it's no longer available in the configurator. I believe Julian might still have one with a 5-speed. The 6-speed version is rated at 210 km/h, and I don't think there's much difference in performance compared to the 5-speed version. Many TDIs are geared for a maximum speed of around 4,000 rpm, just like your Golf. In that case, it doesn't really matter how many gears are available." Gruß

The A4 Avant TDI with 96 kW and a 5-speed transmission was initially (model year 2002) listed with a top speed of 204 km/h (6-speed was, in my opinion, available as an option from the beginning, with the same top speed). Mine, from model year 2003 and with a 5-speed, has a top speed of 208 km/h listed on the registration document. Since only the 6-speed is available now, Audi also lists it with a top speed of 208 km/h.
PS: Isn't the difference in torque, 285 Nm with the 5-speed versus 310 Nm with the 6-speed, just a marketing gimmick to avoid being too close to the older V6 TDI (110/114 kW, also 310 Nm)? Or are there actual differences in the engine control unit (ECU)? I suspect the former. Back in the day, when every test car was put on a dynamometer, the magazine 'mot' measured over 350 Nm and 140 horsepower for the AWX/ASZ engines... Given that, the statement that the 5-speed gearbox couldn't handle the 310 Nm seems very credible.

Hmm, I once compared the torque curves of the ATJ and AJM engines. They only intersect again at the peak power output.
Regarding the transmission: I've noticed that at a speed of 100 (let's not look at the needle right now), there are approximately 2,000 revolutions. This would mean that I have actually reached those nearly 210 km/h, because the needle on the tachometer had already passed 4,200 revolutions.
Best regards, WarLord.

So... Theoretically, your Golf IV with an ERF gearbox achieves a top speed of 205 km/h with the standard tires (rolling circumference of approximately 1.93 meters).
5. Speed: 4500 RPM.
6. Speed: 3760 RPM.
So, the maximum speed is very likely reached in 6th gear, because the engine speed in 5th gear is already close to the rev limiter, and the decrease in torque at high engine speeds results in less power output. My AXR engine also reaches approximately the same engine speed as your ASZ engine in 6th gear (3760 to 3820).
Best regards,
Curtis.

The difference of approximately 9% between 285 Nm and 310 Nm should ideally also be reflected in the software.
The maximum input torque of a gearbox also includes various safety margins; however, exceeding this limit will naturally increase the wear rate compared to the "safe operating Nm range."
However, I believe it takes quite a significant amount of force to spontaneously disassemble a gearbox that isn't completely worn out and brittle. Gruß Ulf

My Golf IV ALH 66kW, equipped with ASV injectors and a 5-speed gearbox, revs up to the rev limiter and then reaches approximately 204 km/h according to the speedometer.
Since I installed the injectors, the engine suddenly becomes very loud above 3800 RPM.
Until then, he's been accustomed to a quiet noise level. Has anyone else had similar experiences with nozzles?
I would now like to upgrade to a 6-speed gearbox. Ideally, the first five gears should have the same (or at least similar) ratios as before. I would then like to be able to shift into the 6th gear at around 170 km/h, so that I can cruise at approximately 180 km/h with an engine speed of around 3500-3600 rpm.
I frequently drive on the highway and often reach speeds of around 180 km/h. The constant high engine speeds of 4000 RPM or more are starting to worry me.
With the additional torque that a potential, soon-to-be-installed, switchable chip could bring, increasing the power to 130 horsepower, it would certainly be a good idea to upgrade to a stronger clutch and transmission.
What do you think? Is there a 6-speed clutch-gearbox combination that can be relatively easily installed in the ALH engine? Golf IV - ALH - Erstzulassung 9/99

Hello.
I would now like to convert to a 6-speed gearbox. Ideally, the first 5 gears should have the same (or approximately the same) gear ratios as before. I would then like to be able to shift into 6th gear at 170 km/h, so that I can cruise at 180 km/h with an engine speed of approximately 3500-3600 rpm...
I can't quite follow your request!!!
Okay, so with my standard Golf TDI with 130 horsepower, I shift into the next gear at just over 100 km/h.
6th gear, and then it's smooth sailing all the way to the top speed!!! Even going uphill.
Thanks to the good torque of 310. Golf 4 TDI PD 96 KW 6 Gang ASZ ERF

That wasn't the question. I, too, can shift into 5th gear at 50 and then accelerate to top speed.
But if you consistently set the engine speed to 3500 RPM, you will see that you can reach the top speed even faster.

My car's automatic valve system (ASV) does the same thing, although perhaps not "very" loudly. You can tell that it becomes noticeably louder than before, roughly in that range. I would guess the maximum noise is around 4000 RPM (in 5th gear). I think it becomes a bit quieter again as the injection decreases, but that could also be due to increasing wind noise. At 4600 RPM, I actually found it quite quiet... but that was at the beginning of the redline.
Best regards,
Jan, who also wants a 6th gear. 1Z5 CFHF / AHB H4D
