Hi.

"The airbag light occasionally illuminates in my Golf 3. It usually indicates an error related to a disconnection in the connection to the driver's airbag in the control unit." It usually seems to happen when the steering wheel is turned, so I suspect the torsion spring is the culprit.
"Has anyone here had experience with this issue on a Golf 3? The local VW workshop even has the coil springs in stock, which makes me suspect that they tend to break more often." Can anyone confirm this?
The price of 111 Euros is quite high, so I'd like to be very sure that it's actually the item I'm looking for.

Best regards from Jan.

Hey,

I had a similar problem with my 3-series. After starting the car, the airbag warning light went off as usual. When the steering wheel was fully turned, it started again and remained on until the ignition was switched off.
Since the issue you're experiencing is also dependent on the steering angle, it's highly likely that the problem is with the torsion spring.
I chose the cheapest option back then and bought a Wiper blade from eBay, which I then installed myself. Since then, the problem has not occurred for me again.

Regards,
Bodo.

I experienced this error three times. In the last two instances, the devices failed while still under warranty. The price was quite high back then (in 1998), even at 155 DM.

Hello,

It might not be quite right: Galaxy, year '99, same error, labor time €45, materials €50 + tax. The expert hesitated for only a few seconds before making the diagnosis.

Best regards.

Helmut.

Thank you for your quick responses. I'll go ahead and get a coil spring. I'll probably start by trying one from eBay.
If the steering wheel needs to be removed, I can also install a GRA lever at the same time icon_smile.gif.

Jan.
