AUDI AEL: Can Needle Lift Injector Work with 850TDI?

The Volvo 850 TDI is powered by an engine that actually originates from Audi, where it is known as the AEL.
The 4 standard fuel injectors have the same part number from Bosch, but the injector with the needle lift actuator does not.
Is this just marketing, or what? Shouldn't the NHG (New Hardware Generation) also apply to the Audi, since it's the same engine?

The plug is the same, but the cable length is different.
The Volvo injector nozzle holder kit comes with a cable that is only about 20cm long, while the Audi kit has a cable that is approximately 1 meter long!
So, it's not a problem to use the NHG nozzle holder from a Volvo in an Audi.
This is also interesting because Volvo and Bosch no longer offer replacement injector holders, which makes replacing them very expensive. Audi still offers replacement injector holders, which is about 600-700 euros cheaper.

But be careful! I've found that the parts specialists are very particular and only accept direct replacements. In other words, if you come with a different part number, the exchange may be difficult or even impossible.

And that's perfectly justified! The dealer gets the parts credited back if the original part and the replacement part are not identical! We've had quite a few issues with that in our warehouse. That's why the guys are now being extra careful.

As mentioned before: Bosch and Volvo only offer the injector holder combinations as complete new sets and do not accept the old ones as trade-ins. The cost for all 5 injector holders is approximately 1300 euros!
Theoretically, it might be possible to install Volvo fuel injectors in an Audi AEL, but with the NHG injector holder combination used in Volvos, the cable is too short.
