Hello,

To everyone who doesn't drive their TDI cars in the winter:

What is the best way to store the car?

When filling up my gasoline cars, I always fill the tank completely. Is it also a good idea to do the same with diesel vehicles?

Other things would include:

verschandeln the car (inside and outside), polish it, and properly inflate the tires.
Disconnect the battery?

Did I forget something?

Hello,

It's also a good idea to fill up the diesel tank completely, as this reduces the amount of moisture that can enter the tank and cause corrosion.

Why are you preparing the diesel engine for winter? It's actually the other way around; you should store the good gasoline car for the winter and get rid of the old diesel.

Sincerely,
Christian

Wasn't it a good idea to completely fill up the gas tank in older cars? For example, the Golf has had a plastic fuel tank for quite some time.
It's definitely a good idea to jack up the car so that the wheels don't remain "flat" on the ground. Or sometimes move forward a bit, and then roll backward the next time.
It's especially important that it's stored in a dry place. The brakes are likely the main problem. In the spring, check to make sure everything is still working smoothly. Under no circumstances should you engage the handbrake when the vehicle is stationary.
The list can certainly be expanded.

If the car is parked in the sun, open the doors to allow the rubber seals to expand and contract.

Best regards, WarLord.

Should the engine oil also drain out, or only after the standstill period?

Hello,

Absolutely not. Or do you want even more corrosion in the engine? Change the oil only when the new season starts, and don't drain it. It's also not good for diesel engines, especially during accidental start attempts. Peak loads for electric vehicle motors are approximately 3 times higher than those for gasoline engines.

Sincerely,
Christian

The oil is already at the bottom of the oil pan anyway... draining it won't change anything...

Protect the battery from deep discharge; disconnect it occasionally and recharge it.

Let the engine run for a few minutes every few weeks?

Okay, so if you do everything right – verschandeln the paint and the car, leave the doors slightly ajar, leave the engine oil in, and maybe fill the gas tank (I always fill my motorcycle's tank because a) it has a metal tank, and b) if there's less air in the tank, less moisture gets into the fuel – although, of course, it runs on gasoline).
Then I would get a battery maintainer, which allows the entire on-board electrical system to remain connected (or disconnected, it doesn't matter), and it will keep the battery in good condition. However, don't leave it connected without a battery maintainer, or the battery will quickly become discharged. I would apply some electrical tape to the vent of the brake fluid reservoir to prevent it from coming into contact with the environment, thus preventing air from being drawn into the brake fluid.
Jacking up the car is definitely a good idea if you can raise all four corners to the same height.
I wouldn't even start the engine and let it warm up, because you'll just end up trapping moisture in the exhaust system. Let it run freely. In the spring, change the oil and possibly crank the engine with the starter until it doesn't start, so that oil reaches all parts (especially the turbo). Then, let it idle for a short moment, and everything should be fine.

I don't drive my VW bus in the winter, I'm too worried about damaging the beautiful bodywork.
Always fill the tank completely (steel tank) icon_confused.gif and leave all the windows open icon_cool.gif, since it's in a dry, underground garage icon_razz.gif. I'll install the battery in my winter Golf, so I won't need just one battery! Starting problems after 7 months, no problem, it starts immediately! icon_biggrin.gif

Hello,

I noticed air bubbles in the fuel line of my Golf after the winter break, but the car starts without any problems.

Regards,

Tobias.
