Hello,
I will soon need new brake discs and pads.
Vehicle: Volkswagen Golf 3, engine code AFN, bolt pattern 4x100.
The braking system on my AFN is the same as that of a Golf 3 GT, so it's quite small (256x20).
I did some research and decided to go with the slotted, internally ventilated brake discs from Zimmermann (Germany). They manufacture sport brake discs that are made to the original VW size.
'I was wondering if I could use brake rotors from a G60 (Golf 2 or Corrado - dimensions 280x22), since I still have two G60 brake calipers.'
Shouldn't it work?
Regards,
DJ.

Hello.
I also installed this in my AFN Golf 3 estate. However, you'll need the seat rail supports from a G 60 so that the seat moves further outwards.
Best regards, Cosi.

Hi,
Okay, thank you for the hint!
Did you notice a difference when braking (I hope so )?
Will 15-inch rims still fit?
Regards,
DJ.

Hello.
The difference is extreme. The pressure point is very consistent, and of course, the braking performance is better. The heat dissipation is significantly improved, which becomes particularly noticeable on the highway when braking repeatedly.
"While 15-inch rims generally fit, it depends on the rim's profile. Three-piece rims always fit. For example, I have one-piece rims."
Best regards, Cosi.

Is the brake disc further out than the standard one?
'Just so you know, the G60 brake disc might end up acting like a wheel spacer later on...'

Hello.
No, because the connection to the disc is equally strong, it doesn't affect the track spacing.
Best regards, Cosi.

OK, thanks for the tips/advice!
Is there anything else I should keep in mind during the renovation?

Other saddle holders?
Are you sure these are not the same? As far as I know, this part is only different for the smaller brakes with the 239 designation. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96
VW Passat 3B Variant Highline, MKB AEB, EZ98, LPG
Opel Vectra C SW First Edition, MKB Z19DTH, EZ05

@Cosi:
What about the technical inspection (TÜV)?
I think if my headlights weren't perforated, no one would notice, but since I buy perforated ones, maybe I should have them registered.

DJ.

Hello.
@x world
No, they are definitely different brackets. You can also see this in the parts catalog. The saddle should also move further outwards with them.
@dj 1
The decision about whether or not to get a TÜV inspection should be made by each individual. Structural modifications usually need to be registered.
Best regards, Cosi.

@x world
You can exchange the 256x13 and 256x20 tiles.
You just need a different caliper bracket.
http://www.jagiella.net/dirk/bilder/satteltraeger.jpg
According to Dirk, with the other brake systems, the entire caliper needs to be replaced.

Hello.
@ dieselmartin
"Yes, that's true, but when it comes to the brake pads, it's actually only about the thickness of the friction material. But he already has those brake pads from the G 60, as he mentioned. That's why I only responded regarding the calipers, because it was clear that he would be using those specific brake pads anyway."
Best regards, Cosi.

Hmm,
It seems we misunderstood each other. I was referring to the wheel bearing housings where everything is attached, while you were talking about the brackets for the brake pads.
You have to replace the wheel bearing housings if you only have a 239 brake system because the G60 brakes won't fit on them. Everything fits on the wheel bearing housings of the 256 system, as they are the same ones used on the G60.
@Dieselmartin
My TDI also has the "stupid" non-ventilated 256mm brake rotors, which are 256x13mm. Is it really that simple to just install the ventilated 256x20mm rotors? I know this works with the smaller 239mm calipers, but what about these weird ones on the Golf3? The solid 256x13mm rotors were only available on certain special models of the Golf3, even though other models with the same engine still had the 239mm brakes!
If you say that the calipers need to be replaced, does that mean that the non-ventilated 256mm brake system on the Golf 3 is essentially a combination of a 256mm caliper and the caliper bracket from 239mm brakes? Or did VW specifically have brackets made for this rarely installed brake system?
That's why many people don't believe that there are solid brake discs with a diameter of 256mm, as they were only installed in various special models. VW Golf III TDI Avenue, MKB 1Z, EZ96

Okay.
To the best of my knowledge, models G3 had a resolution of 256x13 starting from a certain performance level.
Later on, and in special models, there was a 256x20 configuration.
You can exchange these items with each other; you just need to:
2 slices.
4 pads (thinner ones for the 20s size).
2 holders (new, €80 each!!!)
Check out www.jagiella.net (unfortunately, direct links are redirected), under the "Cars" section, then look for "Tips and Tricks."
m; which also has to brake the 1400 kg variant with 13-inch full discs and drums at the rear . Transparency, Teamwork

Hello.
Okay, just to be clear again:
The holders for the 256 are definitely different. I've described the rest above. I've done this before, and not just heard about it. My answers only apply to the question from dj1 because you can't make such a general statement (due to special models, etc.).
Best regards, Cosi.

How about a TÜV approval/registration?
I also wanted to modify it for my own use.
It's clear that I only need different saddles and stirrups. But is it even allowed?
