hi all,

I'm considering leasing a 3BG (130hp PD engine, make and model unknown) from my uncle, who has leased the car for three years as a self-employed individual. The agreed mileage is 150,000km, with a resale value of 21% of the new price, so not quite €6,000. I think the deal is okay. Furthermore, my uncle is known as an extreme long-distance driver who typically doesn't exceed 140 km/h. So, there shouldn't be much wrong with it... or should there? What typical issues should I have him quickly checked by a mechanic to ensure they are covered by the full service contract?

Thank you and best regards,
Mahk

(I've already taken the usual precautions, no biodiesel, gentle warm-up, letting it idle after full load, etc... Oh, and it's the 6-speed version, which might make a difference)

Hi mahk

The only thing that comes to mind immediately is the recall for the front axle.

Whether it's the 3BG or just the 3B, I don't know offhand - I've only ever been in a 3B where that bearing was already worn out; it made a squeaking and groaning sound like an old wooden cart.
Transparency, Teamwork
... there was another T.

I don't know what the f*ck it was.

As far as I know, the 3BG also falls under this. The A4 is also said to have this problem.

Yes, Passat, A4, A6, A8 – they all have the same four-wheel drive front axle. Unfortunately, in the workshop, you only replace one component, namely the one that breaks, which is usually the entire front axle (sometimes even after 40,000 km).

It's a costly VW, so what could possibly go wrong, and then after only 150,000 km? icon_question.gif :!:

I would say that there are many vulnerable small parts, from the axle boot to the hazard warning light switch. icon_wink.gif

okay, thanks everyone. I guess a look at the service booklet will clear that up, right? I've never actually had one myself icon_redface.gif Is there any workshop code or something for the axle issue?

Otherwise, I'll probably just go for a drive and put the TDI purchase guide on the passenger seat icon_wink.gif

Hey, you can't go too wrong with 6000 euros. Some 35I's (the previous generation) are still available for this price. Even if you had to spend another 2000 euros, it would be a bargain... Buy! Buy! icon_wink.gif

DocSnydor hat folgendes geschrieben:
Buy! Buy!

...march, march!

I agree:wink:

I think so too, especially because I know the history and have been pointing it out for a while, and I also think the car will be well taken care of icon_cool.gif It really gets serious in September 2005, but until then, a) my good old type 89 will still work, and b) I can still transfer a few more euros to my savings account
