I drive an Audi A6, type C4, with engine code AEL, originally 140 horsepower, and a chip tuning upgrade that boosts it to 160 horsepower.
Bought at 53,000 km, now at 250,000 km. Original clutch. Fuel consumption between 6.5 and 8.5 liters (when towing a trailer). New injector nozzles (for safety, I don't want to replace the pistons due to leaking nozzles). Head gasket replaced at 210,000 km. Slight wear on the upper part of the cylinder bore. Oil consumption is still 1.0 liter per 15,000 km (so, pretty good?). New oil pan gasket. Oil pump gasket also replaced.
The only thing that always worries me is this damn timing belt. The belt on the ESP model failed at 70,000 km, and after that, all the belts were replaced, including the tensioner. At 110,000 km, there were rattling noises coming from the engine (thankfully, my wife had complained about it several times). The water pump was junk, so everything was replaced again, including the tensioner. I think this car is really good, and I hope it lasts for at least 500,000 km.

'Runs like a Swiss watch, only one repair: I was almost at my wit's end due to extreme fluctuations in boost pressure. I installed a new solenoid valve (N75?), and now it's running perfectly again.'

Consumption approximately 6 liters, oil approximately 1.5 liters for 15,000 km.

VW T4 TDI 88 hp, engine code: AJT, without catalytic converter.

Total mileage: 173,000 km.
Mileage achievable with a cost of 10 cents per kilometer: 10,000 km.
changes:
- llk (low temperature coolant) from acv for 25,000 km.
- Tires have been changed at 25,000 km.

problems:
- 2x LMM replaced.
- Clutch replaced twice.
- Replaced one ball joint on the right side, both upper and lower.
- 2 steering tie rod ends replaced.
- Replaced 2 temperature sensors for display and control.
- Hose detached from the engine ventilation (-> emergency mode).
- Intake hose is blocked at the turbo (-> loss of power).
- agr cleaned, 50% reduction (leading to performance loss).

- complete exhaust system replaced.

...but otherwise, it runs great. No, really!

Engine tuning without EGR system, starting from 120,000 km (mileage).

Replace fuel and air filters annually.
Semi-annual oil change with filter.
Timing belt replacement every 90,000 km.

Rear wheel bearing.

Climate is leaky (and will remain so).

Current mileage: 217,000 km.

'Complete brake system replaced after it locked up on the highway, after 10,000 km.'
53,000 km: Glow plugs replaced (2 defective).
120,000 km timing belt replacement according to maintenance interval, navigation system replaced (CD drive defective).
Replaced mass airflow sensor at 128,000 km.
Replaced glow plugs (2 defective), all fuel injectors replaced (NBF injector defective).
Windshield replaced due to a stone chip (141,000 km).
165,000 km: Complete front axle replaced (control arms completely worn out). All shock absorbers replaced.
Camshafts replaced at 167,000 km. All valve control components replaced, front window guide rails renewed, crankcase ventilation system cleaned.
175,000 km: Fuel injection pump replaced (engine would not start).
181,000 km: Windshield replaced due to stone chip damage.
215,000 km: Complete front axle replaced for the second time (all control arms worn out), front axle boots replaced on both sides, battery replaced.
217,000 km: All fuel level sensors replaced (1 defective), rear window washer nozzle replaced, glow plugs replaced (3 defective), coolant temperature sensor replaced (no display on the instrument panel), transmission oil changed, driver's side door lock and hood lock replaced (alarm system activates intermittently), coolant hose to the heater replaced after 'damage from a rodent.'

For approximately 2 years: FIS has been temporarily unavailable.

1. Golf IV: PD AJM 85 kW, first registration 09/99:

-> sold after 89,000 kilometers. In addition to standard service and timing belt replacement.
At 60,000 miles, no maintenance was performed; there were no problems, and it always ran quietly with minimal vibration.
Looking back, I think the maintenance intervals were probably reached around 70,000 km (problematic).
"I wasn't aware of that at the time, as it happens gradually."

2. Golf IV: PD ASZ 96 kW, first registration 09/02:

-> Currently 80,000 kilometers. Water pump leaking at 65,000 km, therefore premature [replacement/failure].
Timing belt replacement. Idle vibrations, rough running (like a rattling box).
Comparison to AJM (!), but otherwise no technical details. Problems so far.
Rear brake pad on the left side worn down at 78,000 km due to the brake being stuck (a consequence of...).
"Long-life service, meaning the car hardly ever needs to go to the workshop..."

Audi A3, manufactured in 1997, with a AGR TDI engine. Currently 401,200 kilometers.

All Pleul and wobble plate bearings. Oil pump.
Oil seals, drive sprocket, crankshaft, and chain.

Unfortunately, due to the lack of oil pressure (0 bar), the turbocharger also failed.

Otherwise, the tractor runs like it did on the first day.

A3, Agricultural Machinery with 236,000 kilometers.
Currently with 216,000 kilometers (or miles) on the odometer, having been driven for 7 years.
- Clutch still the first one.
- First exhaust tip.
- Charger, first.
- Otherwise, all wear-and-tear parts have been replaced, including the suspension, brakes, battery, starter, N 109, and LDRV...

A4 Avant 2.5 TDI, engine code AFB, manufactured in 2000, currently with 143,000 km, no modifications.

replaced:

At 35,000 km: Routine inspection. Front brake pads and rotors were completely replaced under warranty, including the installation of Audi's "NBL" (presumably a type of brake component), but there was still no improvement in braking performance when driving in saltwater.

40,000 km: Installation of the TAZ auxiliary fuel tank (NBL). Not perfect, but *much* better than the original! "Thank you!"
42000 km: Mass airflow sensor (MAF). I complained about the decreasing engine temperature when going downhill, but I was kept waiting until the end of the warranty period, and then at 120000 km, I discovered that the problem was with the thermostat. Thanks to the dealership!!
Right side CV joint boot replaced.

70,000 km: Longlife service inspection.

90,000 km: Mass airflow sensor (MAF sensor) replaced, new door hinge on the driver's side replaced because it was corroded and the door was no longer opening and closing properly.

105,000 km: LL inspection, replacement of 6 glow plugs, new wiper linkage.

120,000 km: Complete timing belt replacement including all pulleys, water pump, thermostat, and ribbed belt, along with replacement of the left axle boot. All work was performed by myself, costing approximately €800.

130,000 km: Mass airflow sensor (MAF), camshafts, rocker arms, balance shafts, etc. replaced. The catalytic converter (KGE) was also replaced. Due to the camshaft replacement, a complete timing belt replacement was performed again under warranty, including all pulleys, water pump, thermostat, and serpentine belt, as I had previously replaced it at 120,000 km, and it needed to be disassembled again for the camshaft work. I didn't want to risk the warranty being voided. (Total cost: €2886).
LL deactivated, now using regular, good quality 5W-40 oil every 15,000 km.

Oil consumption: 1 liter per 35,000 km.
Diesel consumption is around 7.5 liters, but it's 1 liter less on the highway at 140 km/h, and 1 liter more in the city.

Although it's not my car, but rather that of a good acquaintance, I find the mileage to be quite impressive.
T4 (Caravelle) with 75kW, mileage 426,000km.

- second clutch
- second boost pressure control valve
- Various vacuum hoses have been replaced.

- First engine, first transmission, first turbo!
- first ESP and first set of nozzles
Otherwise, just standard services like oil changes, timing belt replacements, etc.
You can hear the hydraulics quite clearly now, but I think that's okay given the mileage.

Passat 3B Variant TDI

Series 81kW/110HP...driven in standard trim up to 225,000 km...all components and parts are still original!

'Since 225,000 km, the engine has been chipped to 109 kW / 148 hp... current mileage is 266,500 km.'

Clutch replaced at 250,000 kilometers...

LMM (Mass Air Flow sensor) replaced with a DC LMM at approximately 190,000 km... then replaced again with a new, original LMM at around 256,000 km.

Oil changes every 15,000 miles with 0W-40 full synthetic oil. Air filter, injectors, turbo... all original parts.

AGR system deactivated at kilometer 255,000 due to excessive soot emissions... unfortunately, it only provided limited improvement.

The next modification will involve using 0.216-inch injectors... later, possibly a different turbo... if mine were to fail .

Passat 3B AFN, 258,000 km.
Nozzles (need to be replaced again).
Clutch is almost worn out.
Serpentine belt tensioner.
The freewheel is defective, which I noticed when I was replacing the tensioner.
2 cats.
And the diesel return lines on the injectors broke at the same time on the same day .
And it has the usual Passat shortcomings.

But, to be honest, I can't really complain about the engine.

I almost forgot about the three LMMs.

1st Turbo.

1st ESP.

Volkswagen Golf 3 AFN, first registration 02/1997.

currently approximately 105 kW.

'The engine had been modified with 'numerous' chips before I bought the car. The previous owner was a passionate engine control unit (ECU) tuner. I think the car was probably his test subject. I bought the car with 125,000 km (approximately 78,000 miles) and now it has 230,000 km (approximately 143,000 miles). The car has been chipped since I've owned it, first by the previous owner and then by a professional. I'm actually quite happy with it.' Could use more power.
Since I've owned the car, the turbo has been replaced. It had clear signs of wear and tear on the housing, as well as on the 'rotor' (I'm not sure if that's the correct term) on the compressor side.
'At one point, I broke the differential (I had experienced this before with my 16V, probably due to my driving style). Then, a different gearbox was installed. I believe it's an ASD unit (from a 90PS TDI, which has a longer final drive ratio in 5th gear). Since then, I've also installed a new clutch.' Unfortunately, sometimes I feel like it doesn't offer quite enough grip.
