Hi Georg,

That's an interesting point you're bringing up.
You might be right about the LL speed; perhaps we'll know more soon.

I'm almost certain that using both (the .216 nozzles and the box) without increasing the air pressure will cause problems.
The nozzles always spray more than the .205 ones.
If you also extend the injection duration by a...
For applications like turbocharging or engine modifications, the excess air in the combustion chamber is likely insufficient.
However, it would be interesting to find out what the difference is between having only a box and having only nozzles.

A while ago, some injectors for our TDI engines were sold on eBay.
The seller stated that the parts supposedly originate from VW Motorsport and provide approximately 20% more power.
So, a 20% bonus is also offered. The question is how this 20% will affect things. It would be really interesting to see.

I tried to access those nozzles before, but unfortunately without success. If you manage to do it, please post the results.
I think there are still several people who are interested in how this works.
I would also prefer nozzles over a box.
A little more pressure from the charger would probably be a good thing.
At least as far as the issue of soot is concerned.

Greetings,
Thomas.

Hello Thomas,

Who says that the turbo boost pressure hasn't been increased?
Besides that, I didn't want to use the .216 in combination with the box, but rather as a replacement for it.
VW Motorsport also also used larger (larger than the .216 icon_smile.gif) injectors in the VP TDIs. Therefore, they were certainly concerned with the correct timing for the injection event.

Georg.

Hi Georg,

So, then it's not a question.
I think this is probably the better alternative.
Exactly because of the shorter injection times.
How did you increase the boost pressure without changing the engine mapping?

Most likely, the nozzles I saw on eBay recently were ones with even larger holes than the .216 ones.
They were sold for approximately 250 euros.
Do you have any idea where I could get a new one?

Something different. You seem to be quite well-informed.
Where do you get your information from?

Greetings,
Thomas.

Hi,

You can quite easily increase the charging pressure. Simply reduce the output signal of the pressure sensor (how to do this is explained in another post).

Here's my translation:

'There's one thing I don't quite understand: why do larger injectors automatically inject more fuel? Isn't there a needle lift sensor? Doesn't that sensor report the actual start of injection to the engine control unit? If the timing of the injector opening shifts, shouldn't the engine control unit try to compensate for it and adjust the fuel pump accordingly?'

Regards,

Eike.

Hello Eike,

The opening pressure is initially irrelevant. The larger nozzles simply allow more fuel to flow through per unit of time at a constant injection pressure.

Best regards, Georg.

Hi,

I've also read about increasing the charging pressure, but doesn't that bring you very close to the emergency mode threshold?
A map change is definitely a better option.
(well, and also more expensive...)

Thomas.

Hello Thomas,

Why would it go into emergency mode at the border? The engine only has one sensor to measure the boost pressure. And if you slightly reduce the output signal of that sensor, how is it supposed to detect that the boost pressure is, for example, 1.1 bar instead of 0.9 bar?
I have an LDA (Lambda-Pro Kennfeldadaption) installed, and I'm experiencing problems with the boost pressure regulation because the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) mechanism is likely sticking or something. Whatever the reason, the boost pressure spikes to approximately 1.4-1.5 bar every time I accelerate, and it stays at that level for about 1-1.5 seconds. The engine sounds normal at that point, even though the boost pressure is more than 50% higher than it should be. It seems like the engine can handle quite a bit.

Regards,

Eike.

Hi Eike,

That's how it is. In my case (AFN), the sensor is located in the control unit.
To get to it, I would first need to bypass the security and then solder components on the circuit board myself. If something goes wrong, I can buy a new control unit.

The excessive boost pressure isn't necessarily damaging the engine. At most, the turbocharger itself could be damaged.

"On my LDA, the boost pressure remains constant at approximately 1 to 1.1 bar, but the pressure spikes occasionally reach up to 1.4 bar."
I can't say for sure right now, but I have the impression that the displays aren't all calibrated the same way.
I had a different one before, but the manufacturer's label was no longer on it, and it eventually started leaking. It sometimes showed lower readings.

But what I actually wanted to say is...
What about the lambda regulations?
If you arbitrarily increase the fuel injection amount/time and the turbocharger boost pressure?
Therefore, emergency mode. There are also other parameters that might "object" to it.

Please don't misunderstand, I'm just being a bit cautious.

Greetings,
Thomas.

Interesting... Does your TDI have a lambda sensor icon_wink.gif?

Hi Georg,

he he, ok, thank you. All clear icon_redface.gif.

I don't want to make excuses, I didn't know it myself, but that's exactly what a VW mechanic told me a few days ago. icon_confused.gif
See you later.

Hello Thomas...

Well, you can't really know everything, can you? I myself don't actually have a deep understanding of the TDI engine, but I can only repeat what I've read in various forums and books.
It should be common knowledge that a TDI engine doesn't have a lambda sensor.

Basically, you should never have to worry about the air/fuel ratio. You just need to make sure there's always enough air for combustion. Otherwise, it will soot. An excess of air, on the other hand, is tolerated. (Until the turbocharger flies off and hits you icon_smile.gif).

Best regards, Georg.

Hi,

You are absolutely right. icon_rolleyes.gif
Here's a different question: Did older diesel engines have a lambda sensor?

But to get back to the main topic.
Do you already have an idea where you can get these nozzles?

Greetings,
Thomas.

Hello,

Thomas wrote:

No. What fuel/air ratio do you want to control with it?
In a diesel engine, the fuel-to-air ratio changes continuously. The amount of fuel injected determines the engine's power output, while the amount of air drawn in is not restricted (except possibly in some EGR systems).

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello Rainer,

However, lambda sensors for diesel engines might become a reality in the future. As far as I know, there are ongoing efforts by major diesel engine manufacturers to reduce NOx emissions by using a lambda sensor and appropriate control technology. But so far, it's mostly theoretical.

Best regards, Georg.

Hi,

Okay, I mean, if I, with my (thankfully still) relatively minor problems and ideas, only see the tip of the iceberg, well... But if someone who's a genuine VW mechanic says something like that, then I do start to worry. They should really know better. Or is that asking too much again?
Oh, well. Thank you for your efforts and patience.

See you later.

I have no idea where to find the large nozzles. If I manage to find a source, I will definitely let you know.
