UI is correct.
Even a simple, non-branded wheel can reveal that the Golf 3 has the 1996 ABS system.

Hey there, I didn't know that even the ABS system could detect a flat tire.
With ESP (Electronic Stability Program), it's straightforward: steering angle is 0 degrees, all three wheels are rotating at the same speed, and one wheel is spinning faster -> either a spare tire has been installed, or there's a flat tire.
What ideas the engine control unit programmers sometimes come up with: RESPECT .
Best regards, Jochen.

No, that's not correct. With a flat tire, the steering angle is no longer zero. Your car will then pull to one side, and you have to counteract it to drive straight. Furthermore, the rotational speed of a flat tire is greater than that of a healthy tire -> See the function of the flat tire detection system in BMWs with EMT (Run-on-flat) tires. The ABS detects the flat foot, but it doesn't know that it is a flat foot .
A friend with a 96 G3 Variant had constant ABS warning light issues. Shortly after, she called to say that everything was okay again after she put slightly more air than 1 bar into one of the front tires .

However, the steering angle must be 0°, because if it's not 0°, you can intentionally steer in a curve, which leads to different wheel speeds.
When the steering angle is 0°, it is clear that all wheels should ideally rotate at the same speed. If one wheel rotates faster (as I mentioned above!), then its circumference must be smaller.
Furthermore, you should not turn when the rear tire is flat and the axle is not powered.
If the differential is working correctly, your car should drive straight because the speed differences between the wheels are compensated for. Otherwise, spare tires wouldn't be allowed.
If even the steering angle of a wheel is incorrect, you will deviate from your intended path.
Best regards, Jochen.

Jochen,
mach mal den Selbstversuch und "entluefte" ein vorderes Rad .. You'll see.
BTW: Wheel chocks are ALWAYS placed on the rear axle of our front-wheel-drive vehicles. Then you just have to remove a healthy wheel from the back.

Okay, and how exactly do you plan to do that on the side of the road with this super car jack?

Ah, and how exactly do you plan to make the overheated differential functional again , after putting the spare tire on the front and driving a few kilometers too much?

Just like it's usually done with VAG vehicles, take the old transmission off, put a new one on, and you're ready to go!
No offense, but that's just the reality of the situation (and it has nothing to do with spare tires).
Are spare tires always smaller? I thought they were usually just narrower but the same size as the original tires, right? I have a full-size tire in my trunk and I can't imagine a spare being much smaller. A4 Avant 2,5 tdi 110kw; AFB; BJ2000

Spare tires are also smaller in cross-section.
My Alfa, for example, has tires with dimensions like 115/70 R 15. The spare tire size for the Audi is 125/something R 15.
Audi has simply solved the problem with the differential:
The bike has a maximum speed of 80 km/h and a maximum range of 50 km.
The differential should be able to handle it.
I am not aware of any restriction that prevents the use of a spare tire on the VA (presumably referring to a vehicle).
Nevertheless, it makes technical sense.
However, I also agree with mserge that Martin's technically sound suggestion is something that no one actually implements in reality.
Best regards, Jochen.

Okay, Serge.
How is that supposed to work with the "one-size-fits-all bike"?
My variant is allowed to use tires of size 195/60 R14 and 195/50 R15; the 15-inch tires are noticeably smaller, which can be seen with the naked eye when looking across the tire dimensions. Only the stupid spare tire doesn't change its size .
Therefore: If you have a flat tire, call ADAC .

So:
A tire size of 195/60/14 results in a circumference of 185.2 cm.
195/50/15 results in: 181cm.
Source: http://www.e30gronau.de/faq/reifenumfang/reifenumfang.htm
That's a difference of -2.1%, which isn't much.
But regardless, I don't want to deny what you're saying; I just want to say that no one will do it exactly as it would be "ideal," and most people don't even consider whether the differential has more or less play, and besides, as long as there isn't a mechanical lock in it, it doesn't really matter.
I believe we can now conclude this discussion since the original topic has been successfully addressed. Thank you again to everyone here.
