I'm familiar with the "Pickerl" (sticker) in the trunk. The woman is driving the car and won't be home until tonight. I'll let you know what it says. When was the flashable ECU (Engine Control Unit) installed in the fourth-generation Golf? The car's first registration date is 8/1999.

"038906012L" would be the correct part number. It would also be interesting to know whether only the data set is incorrect, or if the entire control unit is faulty (the data is printed on the cover).

Good morning! I removed the control unit yesterday, and look: it has been replaced once, as you can see in the pictures! The engine code matches the sticker in the service book, the trunk, and the vehicle registration document.

So, you have a 1.9 TDI 90hp ALH engine control unit installed.
If you actually have a 110 hp 1.9 TDI engine, then it's either an ASV or an AHF!
Please check what's written on the sticker in the trunk or in the service booklet.

Whether it's an ASV or an AHF engine, the ALH engine control unit (ECU) simply isn't the right choice when you have 110 horsepower.

I actually still have a fully functional ASV control unit for the Golf IV from that production period!

Hello, according to the sticker and the vehicle registration document, the Golf has an AFF engine. That's how I bought it, with that engine control unit.

Certainly not.
The AFF was a 75hp TDI engine, which, to my knowledge, was only available in the A4.

. So, it's an AHF!
Question for @Rainer: Would an ASV (Automatic Speed Valve) unit be compatible for a reflash on an AHF (Air Handling Unit)?

If the hardware is absolutely identical, then yes. But how can you be sure? There might be different board revisions, or even variations in some of the components used.
It would be worth a try.
