Hi!
I checked out the old, broken [device/machine] today. Watched ATJ.
The brake pads are absolutely brand new, even after 180,000 km.
A light, yellowish layer has accumulated along the edges.
It became visible after cleaning with isopropyl alcohol.
I think that when you write that no ridges can be felt,
the rollers likely do not distribute the weight evenly across the surface.
and the yellow streaks are residue from engine oil additives.
And you really emphasized that with your amazing photography.
If no ridges are felt, then there is no problem. Grüße, Steffen!

It would be interesting to see what happens if you use a P2500 abrasive cloth (like a Mirka Mirlon), dampen it with a little oil, and run it over the visible cutout. If those are indeed copper coatings, they should disappear within 30 seconds. If you need it, I can send you a sample for free. BKD GRF

Hi,
For image 2, I think of aniline dyes.
Image 1 and 2 show flow patterns. A view through the microscope, or even through a magnifying glass, will reveal the irregularities. The parts either dried out at some point or have a material/surface issue.
