I feel terrible; I've forgotten something important or only realized it today. If the vacuum hose on the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) is not connected, there is no smoke or oil leakage. When I connect the vacuum hose, the VTG fully engages, which is fine because it receives the most vacuum at idle. However, this immediately causes a lot of smoke, and after about 10 minutes with a warm engine, oil starts leaking again from the flexible pipe.
The cause is therefore the charger.

The question is only why???

Mileage?

Wenn die VTG schwergängig ist, kann es sein, daß im Fahrbetrieb der Lader öfters zu hohe Drehzahlen abbekommt ohne, daß der Motor in den Notlauf geht. SchNot good once.

High exhaust temperatures caused by leaks in the turbocharger system, "power boxes," or poor chip tuning can cause the bearings on the turbine shaft to fail relatively quickly. I suspect that oil sludge forms, which acts like sandpaper on the bearing surfaces over time.

Best regards, Rainer.

Hello,

Mileage: 277,000 km.

My questions all stem from a conversation with a turbocharger repair specialist who, to put it mildly, called me 'naive' and said I was one of those people who wants to get a perfectly functional loader repaired. He mentioned that 95% of the loaders he receives are in perfect working order, and the problem almost always lies elsewhere. He only considers them broken if the damage is obvious, such as a broken or completely damaged shaft, or foreign object intrusion. That's why I was very unsure, but the facts he presented speak for themselves.
Thank you again.

I would say that it's completely normal for things to break down after 277,000 km... nevertheless, it's important to check if any leaks are stressing the turbocharger (unfortunately, leaks in the charge air system are also quite common at this mileage icon_wink.gif).

"With some turbocharger repair specialists, one can almost take these statements literally regarding the actually functional chargers. A quote from a website: "...When a turbocharger is working normally, the pressures in the turbine and compressor are higher than in the bearing housing, and this leads to further oil sealing of the bearing housing during operation...""
I have nothing further to add on that matter. You've already seen the numerical example I provided above.
But please find a supplier for the AT loader.

The charger has been ordered.
I will definitely check the turbocharger system, and this issue with the oil and boost pressure is strange.
