Why is yours working better after the belt replacement?

Hi,

ZKD replacement icon_exclaim.gif icon_exclaim.gif icon_exclaim.gif I am convinced that a change with this LL will improve compression. Also, I cleaned the MAF sensor with brake cleaner icon_wink.gif.

Hello!

Great, Christian, that you're sharing your experiences here... I also have my final exam coming up soon. This helps me know what else I need to pay attention to.

For your information: I also have the first 1Z engine in an Audi 80 B4 with 355,000 km, a top speed of approximately 185 km/h (according to the speedometer), and a fuel consumption of around 6 liters, mostly using biodiesel. The injectors, turbocharger, cylinder head, and fuel pump are all still original. I can confirm the issue with the 'rice-loving' ribbed belt.

'Question for owners of the older 1Z models: Does any of you have a VAGCOM adapter that works? I built one using a MAX232 chip, and it works with other newer vehicles, but unfortunately not with mine.'

Greetings.
Lucas.

Is the car compatible with biodiesel?
I always thought he wasn't ready for that yet!

Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:

'MFG' stands for 'Mit freundlichen Grüßen,' which translates to 'Sincerely' or 'Best regards' in English. It is a common way to end a formal letter or email.

According to VAG, starting with models from MJ96, the TDIs are suitable for use with Biodiesel. Have fun dealing with leaky pumps icon_smile.gif.

Hi Lucas,

Are you also sure it's the ZKD? In our case, it was most likely the core plug closures... but changing them certainly didn't hurt icon_mad.gif.

Hello!

There's a slight bubbling sound shortly after a cold start (audible inside the car), and the coolant level is slowly but steadily decreasing. I can't find any leaks. There's also nothing suspicious in the coolant or oil. It might not be that urgent, but I also have an oil leak at the camshaft seal and at the cylinder head cover... icon_sad.gif

Regarding biodiesel, you hear all sorts of things. I have at least had only positive experiences so far. However, I am a bit cautious when it comes to using it with the auxiliary heater in winter icon_wink.gif.

Greetings.
Lucas.

Hello Lukas,

Don't bother me with this 'gradually disappearing coolant.' I didn't have any problems with it in city traffic or during leisurely highway driving, so I was even trying to get used to the gurgling sound. However, a more demanding drive on the highway caused the coolant consumption to increase dramatically. It's unfortunate when you end up stranded on the shoulder with an almost empty coolant reservoir and a flashing warning light icon_smile.gif.

By the way, changing the ZKD (presumably a specific component or setting) helped.

Regards,
Thomas.

Hi Lucas,

Okay, that sounds like it will take about 4 days of working on it. icon_mad.gif One advantage is that you'll be able to easily access the core plug seals. icon_twisted.gif I would recommend that anyone with a high mileage vehicle replace those things (especially if the coolant has never been changed).
