"Yes, this will be an interesting and expensive project... which gearbox will be used to accompany the engine? The one from the 1Z certainly won't be enough... 190 km/h in 5th gear with only 150 horsepower... expected torque of less than 300 Nm in the single-clutch gearbox. Just make sure this idea doesn't turn into a never-ending project: a longer gearbox, different brakes – that's what the TÜV inspector wants!"

Imbalances and the resulting vibrations are crucial for the longevity of performance-enhanced engines, regardless of the operating speed.
Imbalances are the death of any engine. Therefore, to ensure a long lifespan, you should minimize their presence. Using standard, off-the-shelf parts will quickly lead to problems and result in a constant state of tinkering and repair.

Okay, so I'm thinking about using the crankshaft and related parts from the ARL engine. My engine won't be a pump-injector system, but the crankshaft should still fit and is designed for the torque. What worries me a bit is the injection process. It takes quite a long time with the VP44 pump at 150 horsepower. So, I'll need to install the 12mm distributor piston and the largest possible ESD injectors (which, as far as I know, are the 216s).

@matthiasTDI96

'Hmm, that's another good question. Syncro or 4Motion would definitely be a must, especially considering the performance. It wouldn't be great if I needed a new set of tires every 1000 km. The project would definitely be interesting, especially when it comes to the cost of wear and tear parts.'

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,

Hm, that's why the crankshaft and related parts from the ARL
.

You can forget about that because the PD injectors in the head of the ARL engine have a completely different injection angle compared to the injectors of a VP-TDI. This means that the piston bowl has a different shape. The connecting rods of the PD injectors have a trapezoidal attachment, which means that the connecting rods and pistons of the 1Z/AFN engine are not compatible.
Therefore, you can only use the specified quartz window (KW) of the ARL system with the corresponding sputtering target holders.

I'd like to see that.

Ja, soweit schon. MKB: AHY/AXG.

The first TDI engine in the Audi 100 (the original TDI) used fuel injectors with 5 holes, each with a diameter of 0.260mm. These injectors are also available for purchase from an American manufacturer. However, they are only sold as the injectors themselves, without the mounting brackets.

However, it would be much more important to use a different turbocharger, because for 150 horsepower, you should ideally have a minimum boost pressure of 1.3 bar to avoid ending up with a vehicle that produces excessive soot.

Greetings.
Thomas.

Okay, so you're also thinking about converting it to a Syncro or even a 4motion... I think you're going to need some serious help soon! The PD pistons have a trapezoidal connecting rod bore for better power transfer.

However, a synchronized gearbox will not be able to handle the immense torque any more than a front-wheel-drive gearbox. Moreover, the clutch will likely cause problems, not just the main clutch, but also the one for the rear axle.

Honestly, do the math. For that price, you'll definitely be able to get a used 3B with 4Motion and a V6 TDI!

It will probably run fine and won't be a problem! However, I'm also curious to see what will happen.

hello,

What happened to the project? Is it dead?

I also wanted to increase the performance of my 1Z engine in my 35i, but I'm still looking for the right solution.

@ zpeester

To be honest:

Go to ********, spend EUR 800, and drive home with 115 horsepower and 250 Nm of torque, and be happy icon_smile.gif).

The engine produces 112 horsepower and 240 Nm of torque.

Unless you have a lot of extra time and some engines on hand icon_smile.gif.

Hello fellow mechanics!

I'm new here, and I have to say, this forum is great!
Truly competent people, keep up the good work.
Okay, that's the end of flowers.

I think you're better off with the chip tuning option than with crazy modifications.
because the ZKD isn't participating in everything!

At Bosch, back then (in the early 90s), they boosted a Golf 75hp TD engine to 200hp, which was incredibly powerful, but the head gasket was always a major weak point.

'It's dead. It's probably got issues with the engine internals, and it probably needs new injectors too. I'm going to install a new boost control valve on Thursday, and then we'll see how it goes. Hopefully, with the new injectors, it should run better (they will be original injectors).'

Best regards, WarLord.
