'It's normal for VW cars to be noisy; it's not just the engine, but the car in general. All the VW cars I've driven have been like that, especially the smaller ones (like the Golf and smaller models). I'm always really impressed when I'm in my friend's family's 300D.'

Best regards, WarLord.

Hi,
Regarding the driving characteristics, I've already said something: https://community.dieselschrauber.org/en/viewtopic.php?p=25624#25624
Otherwise, I can compare the PD engine with a Passat 90 PS TDI and my good 5-cylinder engine. Although, despite the turbo lag, I still prefer the 5-cylinder. When driving normally on country roads during my commute, I don't even need that much power between 1200 and 1800 RPM; I can downshift if necessary for overtaking, and on the highway, the engine speed is higher anyway. Otherwise, the 5-cylinder engine just runs more smoothly than such a "farmer's engine" with only four cylinders icon_biggrin.gif.
The 90 horsepower engine provides a pleasant driving experience, but 90 horsepower is simply too little for a modern Passat.
The PD's weakness in engaging the clutch, followed immediately by a massive torque that, as someone who isn't used to PDs, promises performance it obviously can't deliver at higher RPMs, feels quite jarring.
The noise and vibration levels encouraged a relatively high driving style, so around 50 km/h in third gear. However, the Passat is generally better insulated than my old C4.
Fuel consumption: 8 L/100 km. I was in quite a hurry, but my car probably wouldn't have used much more fuel even under those circumstances.
