Okay, but those are the older vehicles with the older radios (Passat 35i, Polo 6N, Golf 3). 'I've modified the connector on my end (I'm planning to replace the entire radio wiring harness anyway, as the chime wire that VW uses is problematic). With newer models, the radio should either stop working immediately when plugged in, or at the very latest when the ignition is turned on. Am I wrong about that?'
