Hi everyone,
I've finally found the time to test my AKE engine.
I also received the login for the MSG system for the AKE.
...
Could you please make the login accessible to everyone?
Thank you.
Joachim.

Why do many people then ask about setting the ignition timing to 1-2°?
It is supposed to generate steam.
It works as long as there is a pure control and no regulation in place. However, our TDI systems regulate the start of injection (using a needle position sensor), so adjusting within the tolerances actually makes no difference.
There are two exceptions:
1) Firstly, the time at which irrigation can begin is being adjusted (although I think this can be considered negligible).
'If you turn the adjustment too far towards early injection timing, the system may no longer be able to achieve the desired late injection start. However, this is not recommended.'
Therefore, only point one applies to the early start time of 1-2 degrees that you requested. However, this different timing should not lead to a measurable change in performance.
It's probably just a rumor from the old days when the start of irrigation wasn't regulated but controlled (the good old times... *cough*).
You also mentioned a pre-ignition setting, not an injection start setting. Could you have possibly confused that with something related to gasoline engines?

Private.

hm...
You can also instruct a system to shift its setpoint.
e.g., via adaptation channel 4 (VP37)

However, one can also instruct a regulation to shift its setpoint value.
Sure, here is the translation of the text from German to English:
'Hi Gremlin,'
You're absolutely right. I hadn't thought of that, as it seems to be more about 'deliberate change' rather than 'correcting an error.'
I understood that PolarLarry was implying that during his last timing belt replacement, something might have been damaged by Timig (see the original post). He might not be able to correct this using VAG-COM.
But maybe he should actually try adjusting the settings. Although there shouldn't be anything wrong with them. But perhaps he can find a setting that he prefers.

Hello, polarlarry should really start by checking the timing between the crankshaft and camshafts.
There are actually experts who don't use the lessons learned for camshafts.

Wow... I didn't think this topic was still active.
Okay, so I still haven't checked my timing belt. I was told that I would have to disassemble half of the front of the car... and I don't have time for that right now. Let's say I could save 2 liters per 100 km, which is 1.80 Euros per 100 km --> 180 Euros over 10,000 km. If I get it done professionally, it will cost around 300-400 Euros... so I would have to drive almost 20,000 km to break even.
Okay... but my ambition remains .
So: The login procedure should now (since 2000/2001) be the same for gasoline and diesel engines, and also be identical to the GRA activation process. I have already received several private messages questioning the accuracy of this statement...
However, that is an absolutely reliable source... I don't believe they would intentionally give me false information.
So: try...
If someone tells me now that I can check the timing belt alignment without disassembling half of the car... then I might just kiss them.
By the way: Of course, I didn't mean early ignition, but rather early injection .
But most people have realized that too... Thank you very much.

Of course, you don't need to disassemble the car for the inspection.
Do it the way Manuel described.
If the alignment is still incorrect after that, you've found the problem, and unfortunately, you'll have to disassemble half of the front of the car to be able to make all the necessary adjustments.

Hello,
Does anyone perhaps have a guide for replacing the camshafts/lifters (I'm just saying, it's an AFB with 125,000 km )?
Regards,
Dieter.

Hello, am I correct in assuming that this is a diesel engine?
If the camshaft is misaligned in a diesel engine, the valves will open prematurely from the very first rotation, which can lead to engine damage.
Have you ever connected the vehicle to the TDI graph in VAG-COM?
If, at an operating temperature of 85 degrees Celsius, the injection timing is not precisely aligned ('on the green line') or is only approximately within that range, then the pump is misaligned.
You can adjust the pump; you need to loosen it from its bracket. As you described, rotate the pump so that it injects fuel earlier. You must turn the pump counter-clockwise relative to the engine's direction of rotation, but very carefully and only in small increments, checking the timing repeatedly .

Hi Thomas,
The AKE is a 180hp V6 TDI engine. I'm only familiar with the method of adjusting the injection timing by twisting the pump on VP37 engines. I haven't heard of this being possible on VP44 engines. I tend to agree with Mersente's suggestion to check the camshaft timing using a ruler.
