I think you misunderstood me. I was talking about pressure spikes, not an injection pressure of 2500 bar.
This information was provided by a Volkswagen engine specialist who was interviewed as part of a report on chip tuning (which aired on some obscure TV channel years ago).

I'm sure I didn't misunderstand you.

Higher pressure than in the standard trim: this can only be achieved with increased pressure from the mechanical system.

And if VW had a trick to permanently maintain such high pressure, they would definitely be using it."

Seriously, I was thinking about a high-performance camshaft for the PD (pump injector) units. I hadn't thought about the valves. I was imagining something like a huge cam lobe that would push on the PD unit for over 300 degrees... (please don't take that seriously).
