Well... I was at another workshop today... the turbo is broken.
With the other issue, we shouldn't suspect the starter motor or the battery.
Unfortunately, or fortunately? Well...
Does anyone else have a turbo for sale for an AFN with 110 horsepower? And, of course, at a reasonable price .

@bonze:
"Sorry if I missed something, but wasn't this about a major starting problem with your AFN?"
How can a defective turbo be responsible for the poor starting behavior ?
When starting, the TDI engine also operates like an SDI engine, drawing in air through the turbocharger. This doesn't really matter at low RPMs (between 300 and 500 RPM).
Either I missed something, or they're trying to sell you a new turbocharger. That definitely isn't responsible for your starting problem.

Hello donalexo,
I have two problems with my car.
The first issue is that it always goes into limp mode because the turbocharger is faulty, and the second problem is that it's difficult to start when it's warm.
Regards:
Rainer.

Hi Bonze,
That's quite a sad story you're telling.
Before you buy a new turbocharger, please check all the information available through the search function here regarding limp mode. Also, be sure to conduct a test drive and have the error memory read out (or have it done for you).
Have you already replaced the LMM? You wrote that it was broken.
It's quite common for the boost pressure control system to fail, causing the car to go into limp mode, but usually it's not due to the turbocharger itself. And if the turbo is difficult to turn, that would be noticeable.
You're an expert yourself, so why do you go to the workshop so often? What are many workshops doing? They often replace a lot of parts, because they can make good money from that. --------------------------------------------

Hello Holger,
Thank you for your reply. I have absolutely no idea about turbos. It's been a long time since I learned that trade. Honestly, I don't have the time or the inclination anymore. I do the usual maintenance on wear items, but I lack the technical knowledge. The turbo is broken because the adjustment is apparently open, as I was told. While it could be repaired, the chances of it working correctly afterward are slim. The mass airflow sensor (MAF) was replaced 6 weeks ago. Unfortunately, as I mentioned, this problem with the limp mode only started after the hose to the turbo was replaced. I considered drilling some holes in it, but I can't reconcile that with my conscience. I want to get rid of it because I no longer enjoy owning a VW... who knows what will break next? I've had enough.
In my life, it's normal for me to always get the short end of the stick. This happens with everything. If I buy something, there's a 95% chance I have to exchange it because it's defective. What comforts me is my daughter. Unfortunately, my wife always seems to get the best cards...*g*. It's probably written on our foreheads...*g*.

You can probably do that yourself.
Search function - "stuck/jammed train air brake valve" - there is a technical article about this topic.

How can someone develop such a negative attitude towards themselves?
Don't look at it in such a negative way.
You don't have two left hands, and you can get the rest (i.e., the specific expertise that's missing) from here.

Hi everyone. I wanted to give you an update. After a long period, I managed to buy a turbocharger on eBay. I was told that the last letter of the turbocharger's part number is relatively unimportant, as it supposedly relates to updates within the series. Today was finally the day to install the turbocharger, and sure enough: it doesn't fit! Honestly, I wouldn't have been surprised if it had worked without any problems, given my luck. Well...the new turbo wasn't available, and as mentioned here before, the VTG (variable turbine geometry) was stuck. It took a lot of effort to get it working again, but it seemed like everything was fine, with an impression of increased acceleration.
Think again!
At 120 km/h, the power loss occurred again. However, my colleague didn't experience this problem when he test drove the car after the turbo was repaired... Nevertheless, I bought another turbo (this time, the correct one) on eBay!
But now here's the point:
'I've noticed several times that the accelerator pedal is sticking. I was pushing it with my foot on the floor mat. My colleague did the same, but now it's important because the VTG (variable turbo geometry) is working again. My colleague, who works at VW, said that the problem isn't the turbo itself, but rather the throttle position sensor or something like that. This would also explain the stiffness of the accelerator pedal, especially if it wasn't the floor mat causing it. However, to pinpoint the exact cause, we first need to drive without the floor mat and observe what happens!'
It is certain that the VTG (Variable Turbine Geometry) was locked, as the error code was stored in the system's memory. However, whether the turbocharger itself was responsible for triggering the emergency program remains uncertain at this time.
I will keep you updated .

Hi,
Before all the parts, including the driver's seat, are replaced, such a diagnostic system would be quite useful, wouldn't it?
It would be helpful to know if the emergency stop is triggered due to issues with the turbocharger pressure regulation or something else.
Best regards, Rainer.

Greetings, Rainer.
Hello Rainer K,
Yeah, you might be right, but can you lend me the money for it? *g* hehe
NNot meant to be malicious.
The error memory was read out, as I have mentioned several times before. The error code indicated a problem with the intake manifold pressure or something similar. This suggests a faulty mass airflow sensor (MAF) or turbocharger.
LMM is new, turbocharger is working again!
Is the error still in the fault memory?
N/A.
According to the error memory readout, one of the two mentioned errors is present (it has not been cleared yet after the turbocharger repair).
Are these two things still relevant/being considered?
I don't think so!
P.S: You have a very beautiful first name!!
My name is also Rainer, and I will also be written with 'ai' *g*.

hehe...
You are right...
My colleague should read the error memory again. However, since the throttle position sensor hasn't shown up as an issue before, I think the error won't appear again if that's really the cause...
Subject: Replace everything except the driver's seat.
He probably needs it too, because he's been sitting around for a while.
and do you know why?
Because under normal circumstances, the drive from A to B takes 45 minutes... but given the conditions my vehicle is in, it takes 2 hours, and one always tries to get even more out of the car by doing a 'flier' and working the rear end wildly back and forth (there's no woman nearby... just so we understand each other *g*).

'For all your repair bills, you could have easily afforded the original VAG tester series, including the technician's fees. Try approaching things differently. Where are you located? Maybe someone from the forum lives nearby who could help you. In my opinion, you're getting too much conflicting advice; too many cooks spoil the broth. Most components have measurable values that can be used to make a nearly definitive assessment. The method you're using seems like modern guesswork to me. You learned this somewhere! Get the documentation from Erwin (siehe Fehlerdatenbank) and look into VAG Com. Once you really understand how to work on this car, I don't think you'll ever buy another Ford or something similar. The only thing that bothers me about these vehicles is the timing belt. Anyway, Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year (but not fueled by biodiesel)! Jürgen'

Hi,
You can easily test your accelerator pedal sensor using VAGCOM - there's a field that displays the pedal position from 0% to 100%. If you press the pedal evenly, the values should increase smoothly and consistently.

Finally, the ordeal is over, and the car is running again.
Subject: Difficulty starting - Battery failure.
The battery has been tested multiple times using the VW tester, and according to the test results, it is in good working order.
Subject: Emergency situation - The vacuum hose from the turbocharger to the engine control unit has swollen. Specifically, the hose located next to the pollen filter on the engine control unit.
The VTG adjustment was also stuck, but it wasn't the cause of the car entering emergency mode.
I would like to thank everyone who helped me. I feel it's my duty to inform you about the errors that were responsible for my problems. Thank you very much again.
I still can't believe that the car is running again. I just drove 180 km/h after almost a year... What an amazing feeling! *g*
Sure, here's the translation:
'Thank you.'
http://mitglied.lycos.de/feldinet/Fehler.jpg
Edit: Conclusion: Even specialized workshops are mostly overwhelmed! In the first workshop, I was dismissed regarding the battery with the excuse that 'it starts well when cold, so it can't be the battery!' My colleague didn't believe me either (after battery tests) until I insisted on having a new one installed (a tip from this forum). The workshop is bankrupt, and if it were still around, I would sue them because they supposedly replaced the hose themselves, and after that, the car stopped working! Their diagnosis was: defective turbo!
I've heard from my colleagues that some workshops are reading this forum. You should do it more often because, as you might call yourselves 'laymen,' you probably have more knowledge than some mechanics who nowadays just replace parts installed by the manufacturer to save costs. In my time, things were different: there wasn't much unnecessary electronics... I still have a Golf 2, and it keeps running and running... Those were real cars...
