@FlatEric

I sent you a private message. We can definitely do the adjustment using VAG-COM. Payment? Bring a bottle of beer. icon_lol.gif

Unfortunately, it was impossible to make a diagnosis for Hati yesterday. We couldn't access the computer; the computer was in the car. So, we drove 125 km for nothing. Well, what can you do? At least he got his bottles of beer icon_wink.gif.
According to Hati, the car is running too rough, and not just on one cylinder, but on all of them.

I hope you have set the initial baud rate to 240. Without that, nothing will work on the 1Z!!!

@wolfi
Yes, the baud rate was set to 240. I can even access my neighbor's Audi 80 with a 1Z engine from 1993 using VAG-COM. Also, all other vehicles, including my 2002 Golf IV, work perfectly fine.

The preheating indicator was illuminated even when accessing the control unit. However, the connection was already interrupted during the connection attempt due to too many communication errors.

I was very embarrassed, as Eric had come all the way from the Netherlands.

@Eric
Thanks for the Grolsch!

Rumors!!! I also spent a long time tinkering with the 1Z, but I never needed 240 baud. There are other settings in the options that are actually more clever. The settings that worked for me are described in the diagnostic adapter article.

If it has a component from Marelli, then the situation looks rather bleak.

solution: the HEX-COM interface from Ross-Tech...

Yep, I've found the bug now.
I am already using an interface with automatic baud rate detection, but unfortunately, I had a wrong setting in the corresponding options. It was just late in the day icon_redface.gif.
It's no use for Eric to do anything now.

But what about the Marelli engine control unit? It should actually be the 028 906 021 FB. Aren't they all made by Bosch?

Definitely not!!!!

I have Ulf's 2.4 adapter, and it only works with my vehicle when 240 is set. icon_wink.gif

@wolfi_b
Slow down! You have a control unit... model 401B. Be glad that it even works with that. It's the FIRST one that allows communication via VAG-COM. The previous model... 401A... didn't allow any communication at all.
Eric's control unit is several generations more advanced. That's why I was surprised yesterday when I couldn't 'get in.'
But that was my fault.

Aha, I see, you know a little bit about it. icon_eek.gif

401B is correct. Until when was the 401A model produced?

I'm not entirely sure, but it must have been sometime in the middle to late part of 1992.
Do you need to know for sure? If necessary, I can look it up at home.

Well, a friend of mine also wants to buy an Audi 80 1Z, but a proper inspection would be important. I didn't even know that before.

Okay.
Up to part number 8CP059000, the ...401A was installed. It is definitely NOT diagnosable using VAG-COM. The subsequent model, ...401B, also only provides channel 000. However, this is sufficient for the basic adjustment of the pump. Nothing more is possible.

Interesting information!
Yes, I'm aware of the issue with channel 000. Unfortunately, that's how it is. And that's only with 0.5 measurement values per second. I've already considered converting the values to real-time values, but that's not easy.
Well, with a voltmeter, you can actually figure out quite a bit.
