My analog Golf speedometer simply stopped at 201,000 km... it probably had the same function installed. icon_biggrin.gif

How do I now document the kilometers driven for tax purposes if every TÜV/workshop report states: 'ODOMETER READING 201,000 km'? icon_idea.gif

Who comes up with something like that with the 300,000 km figure? It's just unnecessary extra work!

Looks like a lot of programmers worked really hard on that again...!

haha, that wasn't much effort, they could only count up to three when they created those hundreds of thousands. icon_rolleyes.gif

Hi,

I had the same problem with the speedometer in my Golf. I also wanted to capture the moment when it reached 300,000 km with my camera. But then, it just showed 0.
I've now installed a speedometer from a 4-series model, and I was able to set it to 325,000. Apparently, the newer models can also display readings above 300,000.
Gruss Oliver.

'My Passat 35i, a 1988 model with a 1.8 gasoline engine and 90 horsepower, has already reached 497,000 km, and it's still running. It's probably because, before the border opened, Russia was only accessible from the south. I took a picture when it reached 444,444 km, but the fifth row of numbers isn't planned yet. Three weeks ago, the odometer on my restored Audi 80 B4 TDI from 1993 failed at 289,000 km, and it's only been adding a few kilometers sporadically since then, but it's still partially mechanical. Can anyone help me with this?'

My odometer stopped working approximately 2.5 years ago.

And for a few weeks now, it's been gloomy.

hi hollari,

At least, you should be able to get help relatively quickly: The only things that could be causing the problem are the sensor on the transmission, the wiring harness from there to the instrument cluster, or the instrument cluster itself.

You can take apart a mechanical speedometer quite easily (my experience is based on older Suzuki motorcycles), and in those, the gear directly connected to the 100km counter would often become detached. Perhaps this is also the problem with VW speedometers. Whether it's worth attempting a repair if the km/h reading is still working is up to the individual, but it wasn't fun with the motorcycle speedometers!

Thank you for your reply!

But unfortunately, my TDI already has the electronic speedometer.
(With a single-line LCD display for kilometers traveled and an LCD clock.)

I think that, presumably, you can only replace the entire assembly in that case.
exchange -> expensive

Therefore, I'll just leave it as it is.

The vehicle's technical inspection (TÜV) is also not a problem.
All it needs is for the speedometer to work.

But what's even more interesting is:
The speedometer and tachometer seem to be something like stepper motors!
If, for example, the fuse for the cigarette lighter is defective, and you...
'When you turn off the engine, the gauges don't go to zero!'
When you turn the ignition back on, the needles suddenly jump.
'wild' back and forth. They seem to be getting calibrated or something.
