In this thread, moby himself wrote that his turbocharger sometimes works well even at 1500 RPM, while other times it doesn't. Therefore, something is wrong. It's the same problem as with cetano, and now I'm experiencing it too. My AXR engine is currently at the dealer and will receive a new turbocharger under warranty, after the diagnostic process identified this as the solution.

Hello,
The feeling that there's no power at the bottom end is a very subjective perception, which is amplified by your riding style (starting in first gear and immediately shifting to second, then giving it full throttle).
If you start driving normally and accelerate smoothly, the car starts to pull strongly from around 1500 RPM, and then there's another noticeable surge of power at approximately 2000 RPM.
There's nothing broken; you just need to adjust your driving style to match this 'typical PD' characteristic.
You can improve this somewhat by adjusting the air-fuel ratio (AFR) and injection volume using VAG-Com.
You really can't talk about consistent power delivery when it comes to the 85 kW and 96 kW models.
Yesterday I drove a Renault Megane with the 120 horsepower diesel engine; it has smooth power delivery, but lacks that characteristic 'PD' punch. The rest of the car doesn't really match my preferences; it's just a French car  .

Subjectively speaking, the BMW 120d with 163 horsepower isn't that great either. But looking at the speedometer, you can see what it's capable of  . In my opinion, it drives exactly like the 150 horsepower turbo in the old Audi A3. It just doesn't have the 'oomph' of a PD engine, but it performs better at higher RPMs than you might expect from a gasoline engine.

However, it doesn't have the same "oomph" as the 96 kW engine. The larger turbocharger in the 96 kW engine kicks in later, but provides more boost overall.
The latter characteristic hasn't changed in my 96 kW car since I picked it up from the Volkswagen factory over 40,000 km ago. A newer Passat with 96 kW (equipped with turn signals in the side mirrors) and very few kilometers on the odometer behaved similarly, although its heavier weight generally makes it feel a bit more restrained. The "oomph" is one of the main characteristics of the more powerful VW TDIs; you either love it or hate it.
The Megane with 120 horsepower feels almost more harmonious than the 74 kW version, not to mention the engine noise. It also revs very willingly. But the rest of the car... well, as has already been mentioned. And thanks to its design rear end and corresponding poor aerodynamics, it doesn't even want to exceed 200 km/h on the highway, speedometer reading notwithstanding.
The 320d with 110 kW doesn't have that immediate surge of power, but it revs smoothly and willingly up to 5,000/min, showcasing the typical BMW characteristic of a higher-revving engine. However, it feels relatively sluggish below 2,000/min. It really comes into its own on the highway, and the example I drove continued to accelerate even after reaching 240 km/h (approximately 150 mph) with sufficient initial speed.
The more powerful TDIs are still proper turbos of the old school, not for the faint of heart  ... Gruß

....I'm such a wimp....after the OBD tuning, my Leon (ASZ) has so much extreme power (approximately 180 hp/420 Nm according to DZR) that I have real problems when I want to accelerate quickly. Due to the poor traction (despite 225 tires and dry road), all the power is lost, and at traffic light starts, you're more likely to break the drive shafts (or I will eventually learn how to handle it  ).
...on the highway, it's naturally great because the power can be put to use there (I just hope the clutch holds  )...the engine still has a lot of punch even at RPMs above 3,500.

...I don't think this disharmonious power delivery is bad.......but the power also needs to be put down (rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive, or 305 tires on the front).....or you should have a sensitive throttle foot  .

.....yes, the 74kW TDI really performs better at lower RPMs... I was pleasantly surprised... it just lacked a 6th gear  .

Let's see how the new CR models from Audi perform...
Regarding the high-performance design: The A4 also has great power at higher speeds. When you floor it on the highway at 180 km/h, it pulls strongly and confidently all the way up to its rev limiter! Excellent.
