Okay, usually it takes about 5 minutes to get rid of that.

I wouldn't dare do something like that to my car. Used ALH/AHF/ASV engines are plug-and-play, unlike the AJM, and they're much more readily available than those PD parts.

Best regards, Rainer.

Greetings, Rainer.

Please explain to me how to do that?

What's not plug and play with the AJM? I only have to run one wire to the fuel tank. Everything else is the same. The effort involved is exactly the same as installing a different ALH, except for having to rewire the engine harness and install a different instrument cluster. But even that shouldn't take more than an hour.

"Wow, and AJM 1/2001... that's probably one of the really good ones. Let me know when you're done if it was all plug and play... I'm curious to see how it will run without any pre-conditioning for the tandem pump."

Regarding the STG adjustment, I tried it before. It didn't improve anything.

When were the AJM engines used in the Golf/Bora models?

Why without pre-charging? I'm installing the pump directly into the tank.

Please tell me which oil is the standard for a AJM engine. The owner's manual is stuck together due to moisture, so I can't read anything anymore. Does this engine still work well with 10w40 oil, or do I need to use something else? Long-life oil is not an option, as I don't drive more than 10,000 km with each oil change.

Hello!

Simply VW 505.01 (for engines requiring PD oil).

Darius.

no improvement.
No, you need to properly adjust the fuel injection pump.

I'll join Rainer and the others - I would never replace a VP with an AJM! icon_biggrin.gif

Not even a 66kW one!

Okay, the engine is installed and running. Everything went well. Let's see how long it lasts.

The datasheet also mentions 'QG2' (fixed interval with oil level sensor). Does this mean that the engine cannot use long-life oil?

That was quick icon_eek.gif.
Then, as a precaution, don't hit him too hard on the head until you have an ASZ or ARL in reserve icon_wink.gif.

Basically, yes.
What the actual technical facts are behind this can sometimes be difficult to grasp – for example, when the same engine with the same components (according to documents) is delivered with "longlife" oil by VW, but with fixed intervals by Seat or Skoda...

@Ulf: Would you run this motor with a flexible interval oil change schedule? I just filled it with 5W30 LL3 oil. According to the part numbers in the service record, there aren't any different bearing shells, crankshafts, or pistons, so the hardware should be compatible, right?

If so, how do I tell the dashboard with VAG-COM that it should now start using the longlife setting? Basically, how do I reset the service interval? I just filled up with 5W30 LL3 oil.

I've already received advice on the GTI-TDI forum regarding speedometer coding. I'm trying to change the code to 05112, but I don't know how to do it using VAG Com.

Only if the AJM (Automatic Transmission Module) of your MJ was delivered with at least some features related to LL (Low-Level functionality), which I can't verify.
However, I'm not a fan of long-life oil, because of the thin 0W30 stuff with poor high-temperature performance. Therefore, I would anyway change it at fixed intervals.
I haven't looked into the LL3 in detail yet.

No idea. It also requires a few hardware and software features. Do you have all of those available?
The user "beetle24(?)" from the GF forum has some quite useful information on their website about this topic.

Often, the parts in a longlife oil case are simply of higher quality.

That means the engines are not backward compatible and are not suitable for extended service intervals.

I'm not aware of the AJM being known as a long-lasting product.

Best regards, Tom.

P.S.: That was really fast!

hi

I'm not really a fan of LL lubricants, at least I haven't been until now. Two of my colleagues more or less convinced me to try them. So, I'll be using this LL lubricant for one trip to Russia and back, which will cover about 15,000 km. After that, I'll switch back to regular 5W-40 oil.

'Yes, it went pretty well. Ultimately, everything worked out in one day. I was just missing a water hose and a single wire for the control unit, so I couldn't finish assembling it completely. The only tricky part was adapting the wiring harness. A control wire had to be run from the control unit to the distribution box for the fuel pump. I also needed to retrofit a relay inside for the pump and run wires back to the pump. That cable is still temporarily installed. I didn't feel like cutting and soldering any wires. Today, I'm going to borrow some special tools from VW to properly crimp the connectors and make everything neat.'

Overall, I have to say that the AJM engine feels a bit more spontaneous/aggressive to drive. I find that it responds quicker and is slightly more jerky when you press the accelerator. But maybe that's also due to a few extra horsepower. Otherwise, I think the engine sound is nicer than on a VP TDI.
