If it's supposed to be illegal anyway (like the 100W light bulbs are).
Then I would get to work properly: Xenon headlights with an H1 fitting including the control unit (available on eBay for about 80 euros per pair). They really provide a nice light and are not just a few percent brighter, but approximately three times as bright (while only using 35W).
Your only problem: The burners are not suitable for high beam headlights because they take several seconds to reach full brightness. However, if you're already doing something that's technically against the rules, you could add a shutter in front of them. Then you would have the optimal solution in terms of light output.
Given the significant effort involved, and the fact that it's also illegal, I would recommend using 55W bulbs with a 50% increase in brightness. 100W bulbs are essentially just 55W bulbs with an 80% increase;). I wouldn't risk burning out sockets/wiring (even with a relay directly in the headlight) or melting reflectors for that. And let's not even talk about the (primarily theoretical) problems you might encounter in an accident or during a police check.
Regards,
Sure.

Yes, high beam headlights are definitely only useful with a shutter system. This allows the xenon bulbs to stay on all the time, but no light comes out in front until the high beam is activated.
Hutfahrer wrote: | | Even though these lamps that increase brightness also produce quite a bit of heat... |
Huh?
The lamps with increased brightness cannot produce more heat than the normal lamps. 55W is still 55W. If more energy is converted into light, even less energy is converted into heat, so the brighter lamps should theoretically produce even less heat. However, since the overall efficiency remains only in the single digits (around 3%), this difference is likely to be hardly measurable.

I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that. Perhaps you can find some tests online?

Take a look at the Osram Silverstar bulbs. They once achieved top scores in a "AutoBl*" test for light output. I installed them in H7 sockets and am very satisfied with their brightness.

Okay, here's the translation:
*off-topic rambling: I have original VW D2S xenon bulbs in my Golf IV. They switch on with every trip because they are lit almost 99% of the time. The light output is very good, even though it's an outdated gas discharge technology. Both burners have been installed since the car was new, with 110,000 km on the clock. After about 250 km, a new ballast unit needed to be replaced back then.*

Although it is perfectly explained, each individual excerpt can quickly be misunderstood, so I would like to add:
+50% = smaller filament at high temperature.
Normal = large filament at low temperature.
However, the temperature on the outside of the glass bulb is likely to be the same again, as the total power output remains identical. Therefore, it makes no difference to the reflector and housing whether +50% or standard lamps are used, as long as both have a wattage of 55W.

If the thread is shorter, it could potentially affect the light scattering of the reflector, as the width of the focal point would be smaller.
But maybe that's too scientific .
Compare an old H7 bulb with a "+50%" rating to the new one (with approximately "0" rating), and you're in for a surprise. Gruß, der Teileklaus

Following your recommendations, I decided to purchase the +50% lamps (from Narva) and installed them in the high beam headlights this afternoon.
Since it was still too bright for a practical comparison, I initially just replaced one bulb and observed the light pattern. Unlike the standard bulbs (General Electric, Longlife!!!), the Narva bulb has no visible yellowish tint. In the completely dark garage with the gate closed, you can clearly see the difference in the way the garage door is illuminated from the inside. The spot of light projected onto the door is initially smaller than that produced by the standard bulbs, but it's noticeably whiter and brighter.
When viewed from the front, the switched-on Narva lamps produce a slight bluish tint around the edge of the reflector surface, which I find difficult to imagine given the clear glass bulb.
I also can't explain another effect: When the Narva lamps were recently turned off, the glass bulb glows a bright bluish color for a few seconds. Then, the afterglow shifts to a purple hue and becomes darker. After about 10 seconds, it is no longer visible. Is this ionized gas that is causing the afterglow, or what is the source of this effect?
Since I still have a late shift tonight, I'll use my commute home to get a closer look at the lights. I'll add my impressions later. Automobile Zeitzeugen: |SUZUKI Swift Sport (2008)| |Smart 450 (2002)| |Honda CB 125 F (2018)|

Are you absolutely sure your eyes aren't playing tricks on you? When you look at a very bright light source in near darkness and then turn it off, you can definitely still see it for a certain amount of time afterward.

I just parked my vehicle in the garage and intentionally left the high beams on before driving in. I didn't look into the headlights. Before getting out of the car, I turned everything off and stood in front of the front of the vehicle. The afterglow was clearly visible again. Even though both low and high beams were switched on at the same time, the afterglow only appeared in the high beam lamps.
Overall, the Narva lights are quite convincing in terms of light output. They're noticeably brighter and produce a pure white light, but unfortunately, they illuminate a smaller area. They really only create a spotlight that has a width equivalent to a lane on the road at a distance of about 80 meters. The factory-installed lights produced more scattered light, but weren't as bright overall.
"But why Peugeot specifically uses the long-life version of H1 bulbs in the headlights on the assembly line is a mystery to me. Those bulbs usually don't burn out during the entire lifespan of a car. It's probably because the headlights are delivered already fully assembled." Automobile Zeitzeugen: |SUZUKI Swift Sport (2008)| |Smart 450 (2002)| |Honda CB 125 F (2018)|

Certainly, Mr. teileklaus! Last night, after returning from duty, I illegally modified the H1 headlights. Your high beams were shining much too high and, with the low beam correctly adjusted, they were shining into the trees. Of course, that meant there was nothing illuminating the road in front of the vehicle!
I carefully adjusted the base of each lamp to shift them within the reflector's focal point. Simultaneously, I repeatedly checked the light distribution on an opposite wall. A subsequent test drive revealed how the light pattern changed on the road. The spotlights described above have now become slightly wider areas of illumination, as the filament is no longer perfectly aligned with the focal point. Furthermore, the majority of the light now extends towards the optical horizon and illuminates beyond the treetops. At the same time, a portion of the light falls within the low beam zone, creating an exceptionally bright area on the road.
Previously, the high beam only illuminated when you turned the headlights all the way down using the height adjustment. Why would the manufacturer do something like that? I've also noticed this in other vehicles, where the high beams usually shine much too high. However, with H4 headlights, there was nothing you could do to change it. Are those €3 *your* price, or is that how much everyone gets them for?
If so, do they also ship pears within Germany?
Even with postage, each pear sent individually would be cheaper than buying them here from the supermarket, and I'd probably order at least four. Gruß Ulf

I have 4 packages left over from a group order, each containing 2 H7 bulbs. They have a very slightly bluish glass casing. Manufacturer/importer: Eufab, Wuppertal. 12V, 55W. Brand new in unopened plastic packaging. Price: €5.83. I would sell them for that price plus shipping (€4.10 via Hermes), excluding any warranty.
We installed those things in a friend's Golf IV. The light output is quite decent. I won't be putting them in my Leon, though, because I don't like lamps with a bluish tint. Automobile Zeitzeugen: |SUZUKI Swift Sport (2008)| |Smart 450 (2002)| |Honda CB 125 F (2018)|

Are the €3 "your" price, or does everyone get them for such a "cheap" price?

The ~3€ is a price for retailers.
You will receive an invoice via private message for a cash purchase without any discounts. However, these are the Hella lamps that I mentioned.
They cost €4.65 + VAT = €5.39.
I don't think they ship directly to customers. They only sell to listed specialist retailers. Gruß Bertil
