Hello,

@meyert, I have a completely normal OBD-2 interface (bought from *bay) that also works with VAG-Com.

I still think your notebook is too fast. I tried it again yesterday with my old Pentium-90, and it still works. As I said, only under DOS or with Win98 and F8 at startup, and then - only the command prompt - selected.

I can then display and save the entire EEPROM content.
After that, you can change the mileage.
After pressing Enter, I also get an error message (e.g., 'div. bei Zero'), but the mileage is still changed. :D

I tried it once on a Polo with a MM-tachometer from 1998, but nothing happened and the program crashed. I think it's only suitable for certain VDO tachometers.

Best regards,
Jackson

exactly, I've also observed this effect in almost everyone!

Does anyone have more detailed information about the OBD2 interface (protocols, baud rate, data format, etc.)?

I can program well in VisualBasic and I have already written an application that works over the COM interface.

It might be possible to intercept the data transmitted by the alfa8.exe to the combined instrument and vice versa, using a second PC. Then, a custom program could be written that would also function with 'modern' PCs and under Windows/XP.

icon_idea.gif Hello, I've also been working with alfa8 and have found the same problems. Here's my solution: icon_wink.gif Alfa8 is a program that combines many smaller tachometer programs, specifically the Golf 4 VDO 66 and others! I have a small program for each VAG tachometer, such as the VW Lupo motometer or the T4 VDO BJ. 10_98 (also for Audi).

VDO66.exe is only for the Golf 4 for me. Someone has simply created alfa8.exe from it and sold it on eBay for a few dollars (my opinion). If anyone is interested in looking at or trying my programs, please let me know, and I'll send you the program for your car.

P.S.: If anyone knows exactly what prerequisites are needed for proper functioning (e.g., 486 or not), I would be very grateful! Nothing is working for me yet.
(I might be wrong about everything, but the two programs are identical!)
Best regards, 16volti!!!

Hello,

I tried to adjust the speedometer from a 1997 Seat Ibiza with VDO.exe and mm.exe last time! The VDO program didn't do anything, and with mm.exe, I could hear a ticking sound in the instrument cluster, and the display showed '---P---', which might mean 'program'?

However, the speedometer didn't change!

Guys, do you really believe that a software from eBay for 10 euros works?
A good system starts at 5000 euros, and a complete one costs just double that.
Regarding the Ibiza: There are various VDO speedometers (which are identical to the old Golf 3).
The ones with Torx screws can only be programmed directly via the EPROM.
Regarding diagnosis: There are VW Motometer, VDO, and Bosch speedometers.
VDO speedometers can be directly programmed (but the access codes for the newer ones are definitely not included in such cheap copies). With newer Motometer and all Bosch speedometers,
the software has to search for a password, which can take up to 1.5 hours. This software definitely cannot do that.
Audi: There are VDO, UKNSI, MagnetiMarelli/Jaeger, and Bosch speedometers.
VDO speedometers can be programmed with good software via diagnosis, UKNSI never, and Bosch and MagnetiMarelli sometimes.
If you can really get this amateur software to work so far as to program, the question is whether the speedometer and the immobilizer will survive!
There are several software versions with checksums for the immobilizer.
And this Stümpersoftware definitely does not support that.

So: Save yourselves the trouble, as it will probably not work in 99% of cases. There's a reason why functional systems have a price, and that includes the service itself. You'll get good work and it will actually work!

By the way, no one who develops Tachosoftware releases anything on a PC. These programs (if they are to be good) are only available on the corresponding handheld devices.

Best regards,

Steffen

Beitrag16-07-2004, 15:52    Titel: vdo.exe and mm.exe Zitieren

Hi everyone,

Okay, here's the translation:

'So, I tried out both programs yesterday and successfully programmed a MOTOMETER speedometer to 11000 km using the mm.exe, after several attempts. I also successfully reset the speedometer to its original reading.

If you want to save time, do the following:

1. The cable must be properly connected to both the speedometer and the laptop.
2. Turning on the ignition simply means making contact, so don't start the engine!
3. DO NOT start the program from Windows, but use a BOOTDISKETTE (e.g., WIN98).
4. Start the program and enter the desired mileage, then confirm with the Enter key. Now, the display on the speedometer should show ---P---. If not, then the cable is not properly connected, so keep fiddling until ---P--- appears.
5. Pressing the Enter key will send the mileage, and you will hear a short clicking sound in the speedometer, the ---P--- display will disappear, and the desired mileage will be displayed.'

Okay, I tried running the vdo.exe program from a VDO speedometer, but unfortunately, it didn't work. I ran the program with VDO 11000, but nothing happened. There was no ---P--- display or any other indication. Then I tried running mm.exe (I thought it might work icon_confused.gif), and I did get the ---P--- display icon_surprised.gif, but then nothing else happened.

Does anyone know what I might be doing wrong?

Does anyone have the source code for these two programs, because I would be very interested to see how it works.

So if anyone could help me with that, that would be great. icon_rolleyes.gif

I also tried using vdo.exe on my VDO.

Without success.

I can't guarantee that the cables were properly connected.

On another forum, I was told that vdo.exe would not work with my Passat 35i speedometer (B3 - 1992).

Has anyone successfully programmed such a speedometer?

I have also tried to program the EEPROM. I found software for this, but I don't want to desolder it. Could it also work without desoldering? Can I damage anything with that?

Best regards

The 3-pin connection on the old speedometer smells a little like I2C (-> Serial EEPROM). What do you think?
